The Knights of Saint Columba (local council
330) participate in welfare, social activities, youth work, the lay apostolate,
ecumenism and practical work in parish,diocesan and national activities.
The Knights of St
Columba is a national organisation affiliated to the International
Alliance of Catholic Knights. The first council was elected in Glasgow
in 1921
and the movement spread southwards. The Ruislip Knights of St Columba
got
their charter on 13 March 1939, becoming part of Westminster West Province.
The first Grand Knight was Mr W. R. Leach
The Ruislip KSC now covers the parishes of the Most Sacred Heart, St Thomas
More's, Eastcote, St Matthew's, Northwood and St Gregory's, South Ruislip.
Men of all ages and
professions make up the Ruislip KSC, which meets on the second
Wednesday of every month in the Warrender Room.
They spend much time fund raising and send donations to various good causes,
such as RAFT at Mount Vernon Hospital andhelp out in the parish in all
sorts of ways, from moving chairs in the Hesdin Hallto co-ordinating all-night
vigils. They have strong links with the Society for the
Protection of the Unborn Child and St Vincent de Paul. The group is open
to
any practising catholic male over 16 years of age.
Meetings are on the first and second Wednesdays
of the month at 8.00 p.m. in the Warrender room.
