Fr. Mark writes
:-“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt amongst us.”
In this world we will never understand fully the tremendous
mystery and significance of these words, what we celebrate at
Christmas. God has come among us, to heal us, to teach us, to
save us, to be a presence alongside us. Because of that first
Christmas in Bethlehem, the world will never be the same again.
The extent to which our lives are changed by Christmas will
depend upon whether we allow this new-born Child into our lives,
to transform us, to mould us, to love us.
The choice is ours. As we kneel before the crib, as we receive
Him in Holy Communion, let us ask for the graces we need to
make our lives more Christ-like.
We are drawing to the close of an extraordinary year in the
life of the Church. The illness and death of one great Pope,
the election of another. Even if they have not always been reported
by the secular Press Pope Benedict has been saying many beautiful
and profound things over the past eight months. He spoke the
following words to a group of young people recently. However,
this Christmas they apply to us all, regardless of age : “Dear
young friends, Jesus is your true friend and Lord; enter into
a relationship of true friendship with Him! He is expecting
you and in Him alone will you find happiness. How easy it is
to be content with the superficial pleasures that daily life
offers us; how easy it is to live only for oneself, apparently
enjoying life! But sooner or later we realize that this is not
true happiness, because true happiness is much deeper: we find
it only in Jesus. As I said in Cologne, “The happiness
you are seeking, the happiness you have a right to enjoy, has
a name and a face: it is Jesus of Nazareth”.”
May God bless you and your families this Christmas time and
always.
Sympathy
We extend our sympathy to the family of Dennis Batten,
who died on 19 December. His funeral Mass will be here
at 10 am on Wednesday, 28 December. May he rest in peace.
Bethany Tree
The Bethany Tree is now at the front of the Church
near to the crib. If you wish you can write on one of
the labels a person close to you who is deceased and
we will remember them at the crib at Christmas time.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.
Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.
Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.
Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
Pilgrimage to Italy
I have organised a parish pilgrimage for 15th –
21st October 2006. This pilgrimage is to Padua, Venice,
Verona and Lake Garda. Flights are from Heathrow to
Venice and we will stay at Casa de Pellegrino Hotel,
in the heart of Padua. Padua is associated with the
Franciscan St. Anthony who died there in the 13th Century.
We visit Venice, the City of St. Mark; Verona famous
for being the city of Romeo and Juliet, but also St.
Zeno, a fifth century Bishop whose relics are contained
in a Romanesque Church noted as being one of the finest
in Europe. We will visit the Venetian Islands and to
San Francesco del Deserto where in 1220 St. Frances
founded a Sanctuary. Lastly, Lake Garda and the town
of Limone, the birth place of St. Daniel Comboni, Missionary
and canonized in 2003. Cost is £ 659.00 per person
for twin bedded room includes flights, entrance fees
and half board. We shall be accompanied on this trip
by Judith Dean who was our Tour Escort in Assisi last
October. There will be a meeting on Tuesday 17th January
2006 in the Coffee Lounge at 7.30 pm for those interested.
I can only accommodate forty people on this trip. If
you intend going on this pilgrimage you should attend
the meeting. Forms can be completed on the night so
do not forget glasses plus a cheque for the deposit
of £ 90.00 plus £ 24.70 Travel Insurance
if required.
