Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God

Fr. Michael writes:- Mother of God. Our Mother. Woman of Faith. It is so good to start the New Year by turning to Mary. Mary’s last recorded words were at the wedding at Cana: “Do whatever he tells you.” No woman ever took her own advice so completely to heart. It is because Mary was so faithful; so positively and courageously faithful, that she represents such a tremendous challenge, that she is, for us, such a helpful model. I hope that for 2006 there may be in the Church a deepening
attachment to Mary. I hope that we will honour her as God’s mother, trust her as our own, imitate her gladly in our fidelity to Christ and his Church. If we do that I am sure that for us all it will be a happy new year. A very happy and holy new year to you all.

Many thanks

Many thanks again to all who helped in any way to making our Church beautiful for the Christmas Season. Grateful thanks to the flower ladies; servers; cleaners; collectors; Eucharistic Ministers and Readers; Choir; Folk Group and Adrian our organist. Thank you also to any individuals who helped in any way.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Pilgrimage to Italy

I have organised a parish pilgrimage for 15th – 21st October 2006. This pilgrimage is to Padua, Venice, Verona and Lake Garda. Flights are from Heathrow to Venice and we will stay at Casa de Pellegrino Hotel, in the heart of Padua. Padua is associated with the Franciscan St. Anthony who died there in the 13th Century. We visit Venice, the City of St. Mark; Verona famous for being the city of Romeo and Juliet, but also St. Zeno, a fifth century Bishop whose relics are contained in a Romanesque Church noted as being one of the finest in Europe. We will visit the Venetian Islands and to San Francesco del Deserto where in 1220 St. Frances founded a Sanctuary. Lastly, Lake Garda and the town of Limone, the birth place of St. Daniel Comboni, Missionary and canonized in 2003. Cost is £ 659.00 per person for twin bedded room includes flights, entrance fees and half board. We shall be accompanied on this trip by Judith Dean who was our Tour Escort in Assisi last October. There will be a meeting on Tuesday 17th January 2006 in the Coffee Lounge at 7.30 pm for those interested. I can only accommodate forty people on this trip. IF YOU INTEND GOING ON THIS PILGRIMAGE YOU SHOULD ATTEND THE MEETING. FORMS CAN BE COMPLETED ON THE NIGHT SO DO NOT FORGET GLASSES PLUS A CHEQUE FOR THE DEPOSIT OF £ 90.00 PLUS £ 24.70 TRAVEL INSURANCE IF REQUIRED.
