Baptism of the Lord

Fr. Mark writes :-Today we are taken immediately from the Christ Child at Christmas to the adult Baptism of Our Lord, the beginning of His public ministry. This is quite deliberate; God entered the world for a purpose. Christ came to preach a message of conversion, healing and salvation. 2000 years on the message is just the same, but the means used to preach it necessarily change. We should never be afraid of modern technology to get across the Good News – and that includes the Internet, a wonderful resource for evangelisation.
The Vatican has its own Website : www.vatican.va
Another site that gives a daily news service free of charge is www.zenit.org
Visit our own parish site www.mostsacredheartruislip.co.uk
You can find there the text of the excellent talk “Debunking the Da Vinci Code” given in the parish last autumn.
I am involved in the Faith Movement which seeks to show the harmony that exists between science and religion. Details of its events, publications and youth work can be found on www.faith.org.uk
There are now many Websites for young Catholics such as www.youmagazine.com , and www.youth2000.org

Our faith is both relevant and fun. Happy surfing in 2006.

Confirmation

There will be a meeting for all candidates, together with your parents, for the parish Confirmation programme for 2006 in the Hesdin Hall at 7.30 pm on Tuesday, 17 January. It is essential you attend this meeting as we will be giving out important information about the programme. It would also be helpful if catechists attended this meeting.

Walsingham Prayer Group

S.P.U.C. – Retiring Collection

This weekend at all Masses there will be a retiring collection for the work of SPUC – the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Pilgrimage to Italy

I have organised a parish pilgrimage for 15th – 21st October 2006. This pilgrimage is to Padua, Venice, Verona and Lake Garda. Flights are from Heathrow to Venice and we will stay at Casa de Pellegrino Hotel, in the heart of Padua. Padua is associated with the Franciscan St. Anthony who died there in the 13th Century. We visit Venice, the City of St. Mark; Verona famous for being the city of Romeo and Juliet, but also St. Zeno, a fifth century Bishop whose relics are contained in a Romanesque Church noted as being one of the finest in Europe. We will visit the Venetian Islands and to San Francesco del Deserto where in 1220 St. Frances founded a Sanctuary. Lastly, Lake Garda and the town of Limone, the birth place of St. Daniel Comboni, Missionary and canonized in 2003. Cost is £ 659.00 per person for twin bedded room includes flights, entrance fees and half board. We shall be accompanied on this trip by Judith Dean who was our Tour Escort in Assisi last October. There will be a meeting on Tuesday 17th January 2006 in the Coffee Lounge at 7.30 pm for those interested. I can only accommodate forty people on this trip. IF YOU INTEND GOING ON THIS PILGRIMAGE YOU SHOULD ATTEND THE MEETING. FORMS CAN BE COMPLETED ON THE NIGHT SO DO NOT FORGET GLASSES PLUS A CHEQUE FOR THE DEPOSIT OF £ 90.00 PLUS £ 24.70 TRAVEL INSURANCE IF REQUIRED.
