We need about six new ministers of Holy Communion to
help distribute Holy Communion at Sunday Masses. If

Fr. Michael writes
:- “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.” We
will hear these words at Mass in the first reading this Sunday.
They remind us that we are here to listen to God. In the Gospel
we hear Jesus say to his first two disciples: “Come and
see.” They accepted his invitation and had a wonderful
encounter with him after which their lives were never the same
again. Christ is forever passing by for each of us. He is always
available to those who are sincerely looking for him. But he
never barges
into our lives. People who love do not act like that. He says
to us what he says to John and Andrew: “Come and see”.
If we accept his invitation we can be sure he will reveal to
us the mysteries of the Kingdom of God.
Octave
of Prayer
From this Wednesday 18th January until 25th January
there is an Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity. St.
Martin's will host a shared meal for Churches Together
in Ruislip at 7.30 pm on Thursday, 19 January. The event
will include musical items, and all are invited. To
help with catering, please sign the list at the back
of church by today if you intend coming. A small charge
may be requested on the evening to cover expenses.
Pilgrimage to Italy
I have organised a parish pilgrimage for 15th –
21st October 2006. This pilgrimage is to Padua, Venice,
Verona and Lake Garda. Flights are from Heathrow to
Venice and we will stay at Casa de Pellegrino Hotel,
in the heart of Padua. Padua is associated with the
Franciscan St. Anthony who died there in the 13th Century.
We visit Venice, the City of St. Mark; Verona famous
for being the city of Romeo and Juliet, but also St.
Zeno, a fifth century Bishop whose relics are contained
in a Romanesque Church noted as being one of the finest
in Europe. We will visit the Venetian Islands and to
San Francesco del Deserto where in 1220 St. Frances
founded a Sanctuary. Lastly, Lake Garda and the town
of Limone, the birth place of St. Daniel Comboni, Missionary
and canonized in 2003. Cost is £ 659.00 per person
for twin bedded room includes flights, entrance fees
and half board. We shall be accompanied on this trip
by Judith Dean who was our Tour Escort in Assisi last
October.
THERE WILL BE A MEETING THIS TUESDAY 17TH JANUARY 2006
IN THE COFFEE LOUNGE AT 7.30 PM FOR THOSE INTERESTED.
I CAN ONLY ACCOMMODATE FORTY PEOPLE ON THIS TRIP. IF
YOU INTEND GOING ON THIS PILGRIMAGE YOU SHOULD ATTEND
THE MEETING. FORMS CAN BE COMPLETED ON THE NIGHT SO
DO NOT FORGET GLASSES PLUS A CHEQUE FOR THE DEPOSIT
OF
£ 90.00 PLUS £ 24.70 TRAVEL INSURANCE IF
REQUIRED.
Flower Arrangers
We now have a new group of four or five flower ladies
who look after the flowers in the Church. We saw examples
of their beautiful displays over Christmas. We could
really do with four or five more ladies (or gents) to
be part of that rota. Experience is not necessary, just
a willingness to learn. If you are interested please
let Fr. Michael know.
God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.
Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.
Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.
Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
