Books available from the Repository

Westminster Year Book - these are available at
£ 3 each. They are a useful source of information on our Diocese, its parishes and priests.
Fr. Cormac’s book is priced at £ 11 hardback;
£ 7 softback.
Fr. Mark’s book is also available - £ 12 (hardback).

Ministers of Holy Communion

We need about six new ministers of Holy Communion to help distribute Holy Communion at Sunday Masses. If you are interested in helping in this important ministry, please see Fr. Michael

Audio-Visual Equipment

There are many occasions when we need audio-visual equipment, eg the Youth Group, Confirmation classes and parish talks. Increasingly, this is something outside speakers expect us to have for power-point presentations and to show DVDs/videos. It is important – especially for the young – that we are able to get across the Gospel message in a modern and effective way. The cost is in the region of £ 500.00. If there are parishioners prepared to help fund such equipment, please speak to Fr. Mark.

Pro-Life Times

After Mass this weekend the SPUC magazine will be offered free. Please take one and pray for the people of our country that we may develop a culture that will support and honour all human life.

3rd Sunday of the Year

Fr. Mark writes :- There is a real sense of urgency in all our Scripture readings today. The prophet Jonah tells the people of Nineveh they have only a very short time to mend their ways – they listen to him, and disaster is averted. St. Paul tells the Corinthians “our time is growing very short.” We must live in the world, but we must
never allow ourselves to be so totally absorbed by the affairs of the
world that we fail to listen to God. The first four disciples leave off from their everyday chores “at once” when they hear the call to follow Christ.
How urgently do we treat our faith? Do we make a real and immediate effort to change our lives in a practical way, or is it one of those things that can be put off until another day? God judges mercifully, but there will come a time when we must give an account of our actions. We don’t want to be left with the excuse we meant to do something about it, but never actually got around to it. Now is the moment Jesus expects a response to His call : “The kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the Good News.”

Altar Servers’ Mass

The annual Mass of the Archconfraternity of St. Stephen will be said by the Cardinal in Westminster Cathedral at 2.30 pm on Saturday, 11 February. We plan to take a coach again for all those altar servers who would like to come and serve in the Cathedral that afternoon. (Parents are also welcome.) Please could altar servers collect further details from the sacristy and return the completed form if they wish to join us.

French Pilgrimage : 20th – 27th May 2006

There is a meeting for all pilgrims in the Coffee Lounge at 7.30 pm on Wednesday, 22 February. The pilgrimage will visit shrines associated with the Sacred Heart, including Annecy, Paray-le-Monial, Cluny, Lyon and Ars in beautiful country in eastern France at a cost of £669. We have around 30 pilgrims coming so far, and have a handful of places remaining. If interested, come along to the meeting or see Fr Mark.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Flower Arrangers

We now have a new group of four or five flower ladies who look after the flowers in the Church. We saw examples of their beautiful displays over Christmas. We could really do with four or five more ladies (or gents) to be part of that rota. Experience is not necessary, just a willingness to learn. If you are interested please let Fr. Michael know.
