Fr. Mark writes
:-Today’s Gospel goes to the heart of what upset the Jewish
people about Jesus : His claim to be able to forgive sin. The
Jewish people knew, rightly, only God can forgive sin. They
failed to draw the right conclusion : Jesus is God.
The forgiveness of sins. How good are we at remembering this
central part of the message and mission of Jesus? Yet, if we
listen, we hear it repeated at every Mass. “This is My
Blood… It will be shed for you and
for all so that sins may be forgiven.” This is why Christ
came; this is why He died. Through accepting our guilt on the
Cross, Christ takes away our sins. As we approach Lent, let
us consider what we need to ask Him to forgive in the sacrament
of Confession
Parish Council
The Parish Council will meet in the Coffee Lounge at
7.30 pm next Tuesday, 21 February.
Social Committee
The next meeting of the Social Committee will be in
the Presbytery at 8.00 pm on Monday, 27 February.
Refurbishment
Within the next few weeks refurbishment will take place
in a number of areas :
Flat roofs : A number of flat roofs have come to the
end of their lives and must be renewed. Work should
begin in the next few days. Cost : £10,000.
Church benches : The cleaning and restoration of the
church benches will begin shortly and will take a number
of weeks to complete. Other companies have wanted to
remove all the benches so we have waited for this company
which will refurbish the benches on site. Cost : £7,000.
Parish kitchen : A new kitchen will be installed in
the Hesdin Hall. Hopefully, the work will begin on 3
April and will last 2 or 3 weeks. Few groups will be
inconvenienced as this will be during the school holidays.
Everything must be removed the previous week from the
cupboards, including the walk in cupboard, and placed
in a corner of the Coffee Lounge. If your group has
equipment, it is your responsibility to take care of
it. Anything remaining when work begins will be dumped.
Cost : £22,000
Altar Servers
Please could all servers collect their cassocks and
cottas and keep them at home until further notice. There
are 73 servers at present but over 100 cassocks / cottas
hanging in the cupboards. Any cassocks and cottas still
hanging in the sacristy after 26 February will be removed.
Please could all servers also collect a letter from
the sacristy today.
God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.
Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.
Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.
Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
