2nd Sunday of Lent

Fr. Michael writes:- :- In today’s Gospel we celebrate the mystery of Christ’s transfiguration on Mount Tabor. It was a wonderful experience for the three disciples who witnessed it, so much so that Peter cried out:- “Lord it is wonderful for us to be here.” Yet that could not be so. Jesus is increasingly aware that to carry out his Father’s mission will bring him face to face with a violent death. St.
Matthew shows us that Jesus is not just the one who is to suffer but that he is the beloved Son of God. In the transfiguration the name of Jesus is called in love : he is named and owned by the Father, and we are all directed to listen to him.
It is that same love of God for us that should help us in our life’s journey. It enables us to keep on striving until we can rest at last in the love that knows our name best.

Lent

We are now at the second week of Lent. If so far you feel you have not begun or have failed miserably, do not worry, just begin again. Here, again are some suggestions.
(a) Weekday Mass : 10.00 am daily. Tuesday and Thursday : 10.00 am and 7.00 pm. It is good to see many more people at daily Mass. All are welcome.
(b) Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Takes place in the Church each day from Monday to Saturday from 10.30 am to 12 noon. Why not take the time to pop into Church even for a few minutes to keep company with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
(c) Rosary. Every morning at 9.30 am in the Church the rosary is recited. The rosary is a lovely way of prayer and to start each day.
(d) Stations of the Cross. Takes place every Wednesday of Lent immediately after 10.00 am Mass and each Friday at 7.00 pm.
(e) Confessions. Take place every Saturday from 10.30 am to 11.30 am and 5.15 pm to
5.30 pm. Why not get into the habit of coming regularly to the grace and forgiveness of the Sacrament.

CAFOD Retiring Collection

Today at all Masses there is a retiring collection for the work of CAFOD. Last Friday was Lenten Fast Day and you can make your contribution as you leave Mass today. CAFOD is the official overseas and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales.

Planned Giving Envelopes

This weekend the new boxes of envelopes for planned giving are available in the porch. They should not be used until the weekend of 8th / 9th April. Please take a few minutes to collect your box. If you are new to the parish or would like a box of envelopes, or to join the Gift Aid Scheme or would like to pay by Bankers Order, please tell the person with the clipboard and we will arrange your request.

Churches Together in Ruislip - Lent Talks

Will be held on March 14th, 21st and 28th at 8.00 pm at Ruislip Manor Methodist Church, Torrington Road, Ruislip. The series is titled Jerusalem – The Big Issue. We will look at how Jerusalem is viewed by each of the main faith groups Judaism, Islam and Christianity.

Parish Youth Group

We meet in the Coffee Lounge at 7.00 pm this (Sunday) evening to watch the film "Chariots of Fire." It is all about the quest for glory of the English team at the Paris Olympics in 1924 and one athlete's Christian principles.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
