Migrant Workers’
Mass : 1st May
At 9.45 a.m. on Monday, 1 May the Cardinal will preside
at a ‘Mass for Workers’ at Westminster Cathedral
to celebrate the place of migrant workers in London
parishes. This is a recognition that recently our congregations
been swelled by growing numbers of migrant workers arriving
here in search of work. Many are from Catholic countries,
e.g. Poland, Brazil and the Philippines. These migrant
workers need us to stand alongside them in their need
for justice and pastoral care. The Mass will reflect
the diversity of London’s migrant communities
in the readings and music. The Mass is on a public holiday;
you are very welcome, especially if you have recently
arrived in London.

Fr. Mark writes:-We
learn from the Gospel that Thomas comes to believe in the risen
Jesus in the same way as the other disciples – when he
sees the Lord for himself. He does stand, however, for all those
who have not seen the Lord but are asked to believe in him.
The story of Thomas leads to the beatitude aimed at the generations
of people who will not see the risen Lord:- “Happy are
those who have not seen and yet believe.” No one can believe
in Jesus without the Spirit of God.
As we heard in the first reading today:- “the principal
witness to the risen Jesus is the Spirit, since the Spirit is
truth.” We can only pray “My Lord and my God”,
because we allow the Spirit of God to pray in us. In the grace
of the Spirit we can proclaim Jesus our Lord.

a lovely group of people.”
