7th Sunday of Easter

Fr. Michael writes:-As the disciples of Jesus we gather at Mass in his name. We are doing what he asked his apostles to do : to wait in prayer for the coming of the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit the apostles were like a sailing boat without the wind. If they needed the Holy Spirit, how much more do we need him? In these days leading to Pentecost we should all pray that the Father in his goodness and love for us, will fill us with the Spirit who alone can teach us to think and do what is right.

World Communications Day

Today is World Communications Day. There will be a retiring collection today for Catholic Communications Network which provides support for the Bishops of England and Wales in promoting the Gospel in the media.

Thank you

May I thank you all for a wonderful evening last Friday for my Silver Jubilee. I have received many cards; gifts and presents from so many of you. Thank you for the collection you made for me and the cheque of £ 2200.00. Thank you for the huge turn out at the Mass; to the Social Committee for the food; the U.C.M.; the Bec Club for providing the wine; the altar servers; folk group; Adrian and the choir; the flower ladies; sacristans and cleaners. You have made me feel terribly humble by so many words of support and congratulations. May I say again – THANK YOU.

Parish Talks : The Gospel of Life

We start a series of five talks on the moral teaching of John Paul II in the Hesdin Hall at
8.00 pm on Tuesday, 30 May – tea and coffee from 7.30 pm. Last year’s talks were hugely successful; please try to attend this year as we examine different, and often controversial, areas of our faith. The first speaker is Fr. Philip Miller, chaplain at Bart’s and the Royal London, on “John Paul II & the Theology of the Body.” Fr. Philip will talk about some of the urgent ethical issues arising out medical advances and the need to protect human life.

Bank Holiday

Tomorrow, Monday, is a Bank Holiday. The Church will close after 10.00 am Mass.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen
