Children’s Liturgy of the Word – Volunteers needed

We are currently looking for a few volunteers to help with the Children’s Liturgy of the Word which is during 10.00 am Mass on most Sundays.  If you are interested please contact Susan O’Brien.  Alternatively, just come and have a look at what we do we have two sessions left before we break up for the summer.

Happy Holidays

It may be that over the next few weeks you are going on holiday to different destinations all over the world.  I wish you well in your travels.  Meanwhile just to remind you that we have to run the parish even when people are away just as you do your own homes.  It would help greatly if before you go or on your return you could make up your contributions.  In this way we will be able to budget and pay our bills throughout the holiday season.

Parish Council Meeting

This Tuesday, 25th July, at 7.45 pm we have a meeting of the Parish Council in the Warrender Room..

Jubilee Trust

Many thanks to everyone who supported the Cubs & Scouts in their recent sponsored swim.  There are a number of pledges that are still outstanding.  If you made a pledge would you please put your money in one of the brown envelopes at the back of the Church and put it in the collection plate or drop it into the presbytery.

Christian Aid Week

Many thanks to all those who collected envelopes for Christian Aid Week.  We collected £ 275 as part of the ecumenical project to help tackle poverty on behalf of the poorest people in the world by working with partners in local communities to support projects which help people improve their own lives.

16th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes:-

Mother Teresa talked a lot about poverty, and she should have known about it for she spent most of her life working for the destitute.  But her definition of poverty is different.  Material poverty is the only poverty most people are aware of.  But Mother Teresa said that there is a worse form of poverty than that.  It is to be lonely, unloved and unwanted.  Hence the plight of those in today’s Gospel.  They were “like sheep without a shepherd.”  Yet Jesus showed that he cared about them.  He made them feel that they were worthwhile.
In all of us there is that yearning to love and be loved.  Hence we all need the care of Christ, the Good Shepherd. All around us there are people who are like sheep without a shepherd - vulnerable and lost people.  As a Christian community we should be alert to them also, and their needs.

Welcome

This coming Tuesday we welcome the second of our supply priests, Fr. Carlos Cerezuela Garcia who also comes from Madrid but studying for his doctorate in Rome.  He will stay with us until the beginning of September.  On Wednesday we say goodbye to Fr. Eduardo who returns home.  We wish him well in his work at the seminary and thank him for his help here in the parish while Fr. Mark has been away.

Sunday School

The Sunday School classes finished early this year because of First Holy Communions.  I would like to thank all of the Catechists involved in teaching our children who do not go to Catholic Schools.  Registration for the new year will take place on Sunday 10th September from 9.15 am to 10.00 am.  All children commencing should be registered.  Classes will begin on Sunday 17th September.  All children from Reception up should attend.  Last year the average number attending was 80 children per week.  To make life a little easier for the catechists we could really do with two more helpers.  If you can help from 9.15 am to 9.50 am on Sunday mornings please see me for details.  In this regard you may also wish to note that as from September the Sacred Heart School will be able to accept an extra 30 children each year.  Eventually this should make our Sunday School redundant.  Applications should be made direct to Sacred Heart School for application forms and further information.

Refurbishment of the Warrender Room

During the month of August the Warrender Room is to be refurbished.  This will involve a new ceiling; rewiring and lighting etc.  If you have anything stored in the cupboards of the Warrender Room please remove them as those cupboards are to be demolished and anything left in the room will be put into a skip.

Altar Servers

With so many servers away on holiday it is impossible to prepare lists so there are blanks for each of the next 5 weekends on the table in the sacristy.  Servers, please volunteer to serve at any Mass that you can come to in our church during the holidays by writing your name on the lists in the sacristy.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Latin American Supper and Cabaret Evening

The Jubilee Trust are organizing a Latin American Supper and Cabaret evening on 30th September.  We would like to hear from any Latin American people in our parish who might help with ideas for food etc.  Please contact me as soon as possible for further details.

Many thanks

Many thanks to those in the Social Committee who organized our very successful Parish Picnic.  I am most grateful to you and to all who came along and enjoyed the afternoon.  Hopefully this event will now be part of our parish life.

Admission to Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in 2007 / 2008

There will be a meeting on Tuesday 12th September 2006 at 7.30pm in the Hesdin Hall for parents of children who will become five between 1st September 2007 and 31st August 2008.  Sacred Heart will be able to take 90 children into this year group.  The Chair of Governors and the Head teacher will talk on the arrangements for admission and the development of the new school building.  Application forms are to be returned to the school by noon on Friday 29th September.  For Ruislip Parish applicants, Fr. Michael will be available in the presbytery on Saturday 16th September at 2.15pm and on Saturday 23rd September at 2.15pm to sign Priest’s references.  For any other details please contact the school on 01895 633240.

Please note in regard to above:-  A number of applicants have already telephoned me in regard to appointments.  I presume that those people either do not read the newsletter or do not attend Mass.  I will only be available for signing forms on the above two dates and at no other time.  So please make necessary arrangements if you want your form to be signed.  Giving you two months notice is I believe giving reasonable time to all who want a priest’s reference.

R.C.I.A.

Do you know somebody who may be interested in becoming a Catholic?  In October we begin again the R.C.I.A.  This is for all those who wish to explore God’s call and invitation to join our Church.  It may be your husband, wife, girlfriend; boyfriend; acquaintance or neighbour.  Please ask that person to contact me and I will explain a little more about the R.C.I.A.  Please help us by looking out for someone who may like to know more.
