R.C.I.A.

The R.C.I.A. will begin in October.  If you know someone who may be thinking about becoming a Catholic and would like to come along to discover more, please contact either myself or Fr. Agustin.  Also please take a leaflet to pass on, from the porch table.

Mass Intentions

Unless stated explicitly you would like your Mass Intention said in the Sacred Heart Church, it may be passed on to the Divine Word Missionaries who celebrate Masses in their chapel daily and are always grateful to receive intentions.

Latin-American Evening

The Jubilee Trust is holding a Latin-American Evening on 30th September in Hesdin Hall.  Tickets are £ 15.00 each and include a Welcome Drink, Three Course Meal, Cabaret and Salsa Dancing (with lessons for the inexperienced).  You can book tickets by leaving a message for Ann-Maria Loughman  or Paula Thompson .  Tickets are limited so please book early.

Molly Johnston, R.I.P.

We would like to thank everyone for their prayers, support and kindness shown since the sudden loss of our daughter Molly.  We took great comfort from the beautiful service held for Molly and the wonderful number of people who attended.  We are also touched by everyone’s generosity, we have raised over £ 1200.00 for Harrisons Heart Foundation, £ 430.00 of which was collected at the back of the Church after Molly’s service.  Many thanks to you all and for the continued support being given – Lee & Nicky Johnston.

24th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes:-“Faith without good works is dead” says St. James in the second reading today.  This is one of the most important sayings of the New Testament.  A watch that has a gold chain but which does not tell the time is worthless.  A fruit tree which in spring is full of blossoms and leaves, but when autumn comes has no fruit, is false and is only taking up space.  It is the same with faith.  A faith that does not lead to works of love – such as kindness, compassion, forgiveness – is false and useless and dead.  Mother Teresa puts it like this:-  “If we believe, we will love, if we love, we will serve.”  It is as simple as that.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Ian Taylor and Clare Williams who were married here in the Church yesterday.

Welcome

Welcome to Fr. Agustin who is now with us and looking forward to working with us as a priest.

School Forms – Priest’s Reference

I shall be available again next Saturday (23rd September) at 2.15 pm to sign Priest’s reference for school forms, at the Presbytery.

Fr. Mark

Fr. Mark, as you know, has now left us.  I have arranged for him to return on Sunday 1st October to celebrate 6.00 pm Mass.  This will be followed by a reception in the hall.  At the back of the Church are lists of foods which you might like to tick if you can bring on the evening.  This weekend at all Masses we will have a retiring collection which we will present to Fr. Mark as a leaving present on the evening of 1st October.  Any cheques should be made payable to “Sacred Heart Church”.

Novena

Please continue to join in the nine day novena of prayer for vocations to the priesthood and for our Bishops, Priests and Deacons.

Sunday Groups

Sunday Groups for children attending non-Catholic schools begins today (Sunday) at 9.10 am.

Parish Council Meeting

On Tuesday evening at 7.45 pm there is a Parish Council Meeting.

Celebration of the Priesthood

Next Thursday, 21st September, all the priests of the Diocese with the Bishops and Cardinal are spending the Day at All Saints Pastoral Centre for a celebration of the priesthood in talks, Mass and discussion.  I have tried to find a priest to celebrate the 10.00 am Mass but none are available.  There will therefore be only one Mass next Thursday, and that will be at 7.00 pm.  Rosary can take place as normal and Eucharistic Ministers will be able to take hosts as usual.

God our loving Father,
who made us your children
in baptism, pour out on us afresh the gifts of your
Holy Spirit.

Open our ears to
hear your Word,
open our hearts to
you in prayer,
that we may receive
with ever deeper faith the
Bread of Life.

Strengthened through
these gifts
make us signs of
your presence
to the world of today.

Father, hear our
humble prayer
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

Children’s Advent Celebration – Planning Meeting

A meeting will take place in the Coffee Lounge on Friday 22nd September at 8.00 pm to plan this year’s children’s advent celebration (which will take place in November).  Please come along if you would like to be involved in this lovely annual event providing craft activities and music for the younger children of the parish.  For further details please contact Marian Lally on 01895 624892.

Gift Aid

Many thanks to all those who have signed up to the Gift Aid scheme, which, at no cost to the individual, now raises an additional £ 20 000.00 or so a year towards the upkeep of the Parish.  If a situation has arisen that means that tax is no longer being paid by a Gift Aider please remember to inform Michael Clark via the Priest’s House.  If there is a record which is provided by an envelope, cheque or bankers order Gift Aid increases the value of any donation by 28%.  There are often additional retiring collections for both parochial and external charities which can also be identified and Gift Aided simply by using the envelopes with the blue print which are available in the Foyer.

Jubilee Trust 200 Club

There are just 17 places left for the Jubilee Trust 200 Club.  If you are interested in joining please see one of the Jubilee Trust members as you leave to give your name and address.
