Fr. Agustin writes: On this Sunday Jesus’ words are very clear: you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. You must love your neighbour as yourself. Jesus does not say we must love God with 80% of our heart and leave the other 20% to love our relationships, jobs or hobbies. Christ says that we must love God with our entire heart without keeping even that 1% to love other things. We might be tempted to think that this God of ours is a bit too
demanding! If I have to love God with all my heart then what is left for my husband, wife, children and friends? The answer is simple; Christ knows that a divided heart between God and relationships does not really work. In the end, we do not love God with all our heart or the neighbour as ourselves. On the contrary, it is in loving God with all our heart that we are able to truly love our wife, husband, family and friends as God wishes to. Christ put these two commandments together to teach us that if we love God 100% then we will be able to love our neighbour 100% in the Lord. There is no commandment greater than this.
Retiring Collection
There will be a retiring collection at the end of all the Masses this weekend. This collection is held once a year to ensure sick and elderly priests receive the care and support they need. We have nearly 80 retired priests and last year the Fund spent 50% more than it received in donations. Please be generous in your contribution.
