APF Local Secretary

We are looking for a new APF Local Secretary for our parish to co-ordinate the red AFP Mission Boxes and Promoters.  It requires the most basic bookkeeping skills and a small time commitment about four times per year.  Please see me if you can help

Thank you for your generosity

The Most Sacred Heart youth group would like to thank those who contributed to their shoe-box appeal at Christmas.  It was a success despite the short notice given.  A tribute to the true “Spirit of Christmas” in this parish.  The challenge was set and met and the Christian Aid organisation have sent their heartfelt thanks for the generosity of spirit that was shown and hope that we will continue to extend and express our Christian spirit in the coming year through the various programmes that will be open to us.

Fourth Sunday of the Year

Fr.Agustin writes:Very often and with great distress we find ourselves thinking or doing things that we never thought we would be capable of thinking or doing.  Indeed, how often we are the first to be shocked by our own reactions and behaviour in facing certain situations or events in our lives.  Surely, on more than one occasion we have felt terribly anxious and even horrified when we realise of how little we know ourselves; of how limited is the knowledge we have of the kind of person we really are.  Today, we listen for the words that God addressed to the prophet Jeremiah:
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you.”  It is God who knows us deeply and understands who we are much better than we do ourselves, for he has created us; he has formed us in our mother’s womb.  God is the only one who knows how we operate in the depth of our hearts and for this he is never surprised by our reactions no matter how bizarre they might be at times.  It is in God and only in him that we discover who we really are and what is the ultimate meaning of our lives.  In fact, the more we draw closer to God the more we come to know our true-self and his immense love for us just as WE ARE.

Welcome

This Saturday 27th at 12.30 pm, we welcome into the Church Lily Ann Diggins and Anita Nicole Stasiunaite through the Sacrament of Baptism.

On Sunday 4th February at 10 am we welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon who will attend Mass and meet people afterwards for coffee in the coffee lounge.  They are most welcome.

Choir

Our organist and choirmaster Adrian is currently recruiting Tenors and Basses to the choir.  Perhaps you are a Tenor or Bass yourself, maybe you know someone who has let his singing lapse through lack of time or has moved home and not yet joined a choral group.  Perhaps you have a son who would like to further develop his musicianship since singing in the school choir, or a husband who needs a new challenge!  The repertoire planned for 2007 won’t be easy but it will be immensely rewarding and enjoyable.  Please ask anyone you know who might be interested to contact Adrian on 01895 238637, kittymede@gmail.com, or in person in the organ loft at 12.20 pm next Sunday.

Pilgrimage 2007

This year Fr. Michael has arranged a parish pilgrimage to Turkey in the steps of St. Paul.  The dates are Tuesday 18th September to Tuesday 25th September.  We will depart from Heathrow to Istanbul for a 4 star hotel in Istanbul for three nights.  In Istanbul we will visit the Blue Mosque; the monuments of the Hippodrome; the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit; the Topkapi Palace; the 19th century church of St. Anthony of Padua; and the Greek Patriarchate and its Church.  On the 4th day we fly to Izmir on the coast, our base to tour Ephesus where St. Paul caused a riot and the ruined basilica of St. Mary where the Church Council of Ephesus was held in 425 granting Mary the title, Mother of God.  We will take a trip to the Holy House of Mary visited by both Paul VI and John Paul II and Miletus, a city visited by St. Paul.  The cost of this trip for two 4 star hotels inclusive of breakfast and evening meal is £ 729.00 for 30 people; £ 699.00 for 35 people and £ 689.00 for 40 people.  There will be a meeting for those interested on Tuesday 13th February at 7.30 pm in the Coffee Lounge.
