Proposed discrimination laws on Catholic Adoption Agencies

Last week we announced that the Cardinal and Bishops are urging Catholics to write either to the Prime Minister or local M.P. over the impact of the proposed discrimination laws on Catholic Adoption Agencies.  To help you we have left some letters to both Mr Blair and Mr Hurd on the table in the porch for you to use if you so wish.

Coffee Lounge

The Coffee Lounge will be out of action for the week of 19th February by day as it is to be redecorated.  This will hopefully be suitable as it is half term.

Parish Car Park

On Monday 19th February our Parish Car Park is to be repaired where there are holes.  The signs and bays are also going to be relined.  No cars can be parked in the Car Park on that day as work is due to begin at 8am.  Apologies to our Mass goers who come by car.

Sainsbury Active Kids Vouchers

For the first time, Sainsbury’s have extended their scheme to allow Guide groups to collect these vouchers.  4th Ruislip Windmill Guide Unit will be collecting the vouchers and a box will be in the Church porch to put any in.  If you have previously given them to schools, please consider sending some to us, to enable us to acquire some games equipment.  Thank-you.

Arranging a Mass

Parishioners who would like a Mass for their intention on a specific date should arrange it well in advance.  We cannot always guarantee a specific date because of funerals, but we will do our best.  The first available Sunday Mass is on May 6th and Saturday evening June 2nd.
Please state explicitly if you would like your Mass said in the Sacred Heart Church – otherwise we may have to pass it on to the Divine Word Missionaries who celebrate Masses in their chapel daily and are always grateful to receive intentions.

6th Sunday of the Year

Fr.Agustin writes:The Word of God this week comes to us with a tremendous hope as we listen to the beginning of the Sermon of the Mount; the best Sermon ever delivered!  The Galilean Mountain in which Christ spoke out these amazing words is still known as the mount of Beatitudes referring to the four blessings that our Lord promised not only to those who were listening in those days but also to those who are

listening now.  These words are a total revolution; words that challenge all our concepts and ideas about happiness.  This promise of happiness, these beatitudes are for us now not tomorrow. “Happy you who are hungry now”, “Happy you who weep now” the Sermon of the Mount is not a programme for the future, it is for now.  Are you hungry now whether for physical or spiritual food?  Are you weeping now?  You shall be satisfied, you shall laugh the Lord promises us.  Christ is here and he is present among us in his Church, he has come for the poor and hungry.  He has been sent by the Father to those who suffer, to those who weep, he has come for you and for me and in him we become rich, in him we are satisfied, in him we rejoice.

Pilgrimage 2007

This year I have arranged a parish pilgrimage to Turkey in the steps of St. Paul.  The dates are Tuesday 18th September to Tuesday 25th September.  We will depart from Heathrow to Istanbul for a 4 star hotel in Istanbul for three nights.  In Istanbul we will visit the Blue Mosque; the monuments of the Hippodrome; the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit; the Topkapi Palace; the 19th century church of St. Anthony of Padua; and the Greek Patriarchate and its Church.  On the 4th day we fly to Izmir on the coast, our base to tour Ephesus where St. Paul caused a riot and the ruined basilica of St. Mary where the Church Council of Ephesus was held in 425 granting Mary the title, Mother of God.  We will take a trip to the Holy House of Mary visited by both Paul VI and John Paul II and Miletus, a city visited by St. Paul.  The cost of this trip for two 4 star hotels inclusive of breakfast and evening meal is £ 729.00 for 30 people; £ 699.00 for 35 people and £ 689.00 for 40 people.  There will be a meeting for those interested this Tuesday 13th February at 7.30 pm in the Coffee Lounge.

Sacred Heart Catholic School Auction of Promises
Saturday 24th March (7.30 pm – 11.30 pm) in Hesdin Hall

Please can you contribute some of your time, labour, talent or belongings to the Sacred Heart School’s Auction of Promises?  This could be in the form of an hour’s gardening, cooking a meal, babysitting or use of a holiday home which will then be auctioned to the highest bidder.  The funds raised will go towards making the new school building and play areas the best possible for the young children of the parish.  Of course you might just like to come along on the evening and bid for some of the wonderful lots.  If you can help please send your name and telephone number to the school office for the attention of Caroline Byrne, Chairperson, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Herlwyn Avenue, Ruislip, HA4 6EZ.  Thanking you in anticipation of your support.
