Mother’s Day

Today is Mother’s Day.  Mothers are very special people and gifted by God with so many graces and blessings.  Pray for all mothers today living and dead, as we thank God for all they have given to us.  Mothers – enjoy your day.

Altar Servers

If you are going to be away at Easter please put the dates of your absence on the list in the Sacristy this weekend so that rotas can be prepared.

Many thanks

Many thanks to all who came along to the Irish Supper Evening.  Grateful thanks also to the Social Committee and other helpers who worked so hard to make the evening a success.  A profit of £1783.13 was raised towards the next phase of refurbishment on our parish buildings.

Volunteer Needed – Sanctuary Cleaning

We need a volunteer to join the Sanctuary cleaning team (to take one turn every twelve weeks).  Please can anyone help?  Phone Marjorie Shaw

Refurbishment of the Scout/Guide Hut

As you saw attached to the newsletter a couple of weeks ago we are having a parish-based fundraising campaign for the refurbishment of the scout / guide hut.  So far I have received £ 950.00 towards this work.  Any further Cheques made payable to “Most Sacred Heart Church” would be most welcome, or ideas for fundraising welcome by the fundraising committee.

4th Sunday of Lent

Fr.Michael writes:In today’s Gospel, we will hear once more Christ’s famous story of the prodigal son.  The prodigal son shows us the way to the father’s house.  He tells us what we have to do.  “I will arise and go to my father’s house, and I will say to him…”  Millions of people have heard those words and, inspired by them, have come in from the cold and found welcome and forgiveness from God.  It is not simply that we are ‘saved’ and that God remits the debt contracted by our sins, but that we are loved by the Father.  Let
us pray that we may learn the lessons of this wonderful parable, particularly as we journey through Lent.

St. Patrick’s Day

A very happy St. Patrick’s Day to all who celebrated the feast yesterday (Saturday).

Stations of the Cross

Lenten Stations of the Cross take place on Monday here in the Church at 7.00 pm.  It has been a joy to see so many people at daily Mass during Lent.

Easter

Easter is approaching and at the back of the Church you will find the Easter Offertory Envelopes.  These are for your gifts to the priests of this parish at Easter.  If you are going away it can be dropped in the week before.

For Your Diaries

Please note that Fr. Agustin will give an afternoon of Recollection to all Eucharistic Ministers on Saturday 28th April from 2.00 pm4.30 pm.

APF Promoters

I would be very grateful if the APF Promoters could collect the magazines for distribution, which are on the table in the foyer.  Also, if any promoter has outstanding money which they wish to hand in, could they contact me on the number below, so that I can arrange collection.  As you have seen in a previous bulletin, I have taken over as the APF Local Secretary from John Wilson who has done sterling service over the last five years, but is probably moving away from the parish.  Also, if there is anyone in the parish who is interested in becoming a promoter and taking over John’s list I would be very pleased to hear from them!  It involves collecting subscriptions 2 or 3 times a year from about 12 people.  I look forward to getting to know you all.  Muriel Honey 01895 675 134.

Sacred Heart Catholic School Auction of Promises
Saturday 24th March (7.30 pm – 11.30 pm) in Hesdin Hall

Please can you contribute some of your time, labour, talent or belongings to the Sacred Heart School’s Auction of Promises?  This could be in the form of an hour’s gardening, cooking a meal, babysitting or use of a holiday home which will then be auctioned to the highest bidder.  The funds raised will go towards making the new school building and play areas the best possible for the young children of the parish.  Of course you might just like to come along on the evening and bid for some of the wonderful lots.  If you can help please send your name and telephone number to the school office for the attention of Caroline Byrne, Chairperson, Sacred Heart Catholic School, Herlwyn Avenue, Ruislip, HA4 6EZ.  Thanking you in anticipation of your support.

Pilgrimage 2007 (Tuesday 18th September – Tuesday 25th September)

This year I have arranged a parish pilgrimage to Turkey in the steps of St. Paul.  We will depart from Heathrow to Istanbul for a 4 star hotel in Istanbul for three nights.  In Istanbul we will visit the Blue Mosque; the monuments of the Hippodrome; the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit; the Topkapi Palace; the 19th century church of St. Anthony of Padua; and the Greek Patriarchate and its Church.  On the 4th day we fly to Izmir on the coast, our base to tour Ephesus where St. Paul caused a riot and the ruined basilica of St. Mary where the Church Council of Ephesus was held in 425 granting Mary the title, Mother of God.  We will take a trip to the Holy House of Mary visited by both Paul VI and John Paul II and Miletus, a city visited by St. Paul.  The cost of this trip for two 4 star hotels inclusive of breakfast and evening meal is £ 729.00 for 30 people; £699.00 for 35 people and £689.00 for 40 people.  At the meeting last Tuesday 33 people came along who are interested in going.  Anyone else interested there are brochures on the porch table and application forms from Fr. Michael.  We have only ten places left for a full compliment.  Please join us.
