APF Promoters

I would be very grateful if the APF Promoters could collect the magazines for distribution, which are on the table in the foyer.  Also, if any promoter has outstanding money which they wish to hand in, could they contact me on the number below, so that I can arrange collection.  As you have seen in a previous bulletin, I have taken over as the APF Local Secretary from John Wilson who has done sterling service over the last five years, but is probably moving away from the parish.  Also, if there is anyone in the parish who is interested in becoming a promoter and taking over John’s list I would be very pleased to hear from them!  It involves collecting subscriptions 2 or 3 times a year from about 12 people.  I look forward to getting to know you all.  Muriel Honey

5th Sunday of Lent

Fr.Agustin writes: On this fifth Sunday of Lent, the Word of God has already an Easter flavour.  It announces the fruits of Christ’s death and resurrection; of the Passover which we are about to celebrate.  In only one week we will be welcoming Jesus with palm branches as he enters Jerusalem and we already can see the first sparks of the light of the Risen Christ approaching us.  In this coming Easter he wants to have a meeting with us, he wants to give us his own life, a new life, a resurrected life; a gift that only a person who is alive and
risen can offer.  The Lord comes making all things new; “there is no need to recall the past” says the prophet Isaiah to Israel in the first reading because God is doing a “new deed”.  St. Paul forgets the past and strains ahead for what is still to come and the adulterous woman of the Gospel begins a new life leaning on the power of Christ and of his love for her.  Like them, we also need to leave our past behind, our shameful sins, our failures and painful mistakes which still haunt us and prevent us from living our life to the full.  Christ comes today giving us this possibility of a fresh start.  Let us embrace his mercy and compassion and be transformed.

Congratulations

Congratulations to those baptised yesterday in our Parish:  Darragh Maloney-Hunter, Macy Jeanette Flanagan and Sofia Nicole Hynes.  Today we welcome into the Church Henrietta Cabusay through the Sacrament of Baptism at the 11.30 am Mass.

Easter

Easter is approaching and at the back of the Church you will find the Easter Offertory Envelopes.  These are for your gifts to the priests of this parish at Easter.  If you are going away it can be dropped in the week before.

We need 12 young people for the washing of feet at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday at 8.00 pm.  There is a clipboard out on the table in the porch for you to write your name.

This weekend the new boxes of envelopes for planned giving are available in the porch.  They should not be used until the weekend of 7th / 8th April.  Please take a few minutes to collect your box.  If you are new to the parish or would like a box of envelopes, or to join the Gift Aid Scheme or would like to pay by Bankers Order, please tell the person with the clipboard and we will arrange your request.

Pilgrimage 2007 (Tuesday 18th September – Tuesday 25th September)

This year I have arranged a parish pilgrimage to Turkey in the steps of St. Paul.  We will depart from Heathrow to Istanbul for a 4 star hotel in Istanbul for three nights.  In Istanbul we will visit the Blue Mosque; the monuments of the Hippodrome; the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit; the Topkapi Palace; the 19th century church of St. Anthony of Padua; and the Greek Patriarchate and its Church.  On the 4th day we fly to Izmir on the coast, our base to tour Ephesus where St. Paul caused a riot and the ruined basilica of St. Mary where the Church Council of Ephesus was held in 425 granting Mary the title, Mother of God.  We will take a trip to the Holy House of Mary visited by both Paul VI and John Paul II and Miletus, a city visited by St. Paul.  The cost of this trip for two 4 star hotels inclusive of breakfast and evening meal is £ 729.00 for 30 people; £699.00 for 35 people and £689.00 for 40 people.  At the meeting last Tuesday 33 people came along who are interested in going.  Anyone else interested there are brochures on the porch table and application forms from Fr. Michael.  We have only ten places left for a full compliment.  Please join us.
