2nd Sunday of Easter

Fr. Michael writes: The world today is full of doubting Thomases as in today’s Gospel.  In fact a little of Thomas lurks in each of us.  Many today simply do not believe that Christ is risen and that he can be encountered in our daily lives.  They will not be converted and believe unless they can touch his wounds and see his face.  How can this happen?  It can happen only if Christ is seen to be alive in us his followers.  He must be seen to dwell in us and among us.  For it is only

in us, and through us, that others can see and touch him, and be touched by him and so healed of their unbelief.  Without the Church, the risen Christ would remain invisible, untouchable, faceless.  Christ lives on in his Church.  There he can be encountered, that is he can be touched and more importantly he can touch us.

Many thanks

Many thanks to everyone for their Easter gifts, cards and Easter Offerings.  We are very grateful to you.  Many thanks also to everyone who worked so hard to make the Easter Ceremonies and Church so beautiful – the servers, Readers, Eucharistic Ministers, Collectors, Folk Group, Choir and Adrian our organist, flower ladies, sacristans and cleaners.  It was lovely to see the Church full for all of the ceremonies.  Congratulations and welcome to our ten new members received on Holy Saturday night.

Divine Mercy Sunday

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday when we thank God for being a God of mercy and forgiveness and who showed this ultimately through his suffering, death and resurrection.

Welcome

A warm welcome to Fr. Paul Allerton who is with us this weekend to preach at all Masses on behalf of the Montfort Missionaries of the Company of Mary.  They were founded by St. Louis Marie de Montfort in the early 18th Century to preach the Gospel wherever the Spirit led them.  Today they carry out their mission in more than 30 countries worldwide, including Malawi, Uganda and Kenya in East Africa.  Please give generously in the retiring collection today.

Welcome to Fr. Martin McPake (SVD) who will celebrate Mass next Thursday at
10.00 am.  There are no evening Masses this coming week.

Fr. Cormac Rigby, R.I.P.

Many thanks to everyone who played a part for Fr. Cormac Rigby’s funeral.  Our guests were most impressed with both the Masses; our Church and the Reception.  Many people worked very hard and I am grateful to you.

Pilgrimage 2007 (Tuesday 18th September – Tuesday 25th September)

This year I have arranged a parish pilgrimage to Turkey in the steps of St. Paul.  We will depart from Heathrow to Istanbul for a 4 star hotel in Istanbul for three nights.  In Istanbul we will visit the Blue Mosque; the monuments of the Hippodrome; the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit; the Topkapi Palace; the 19th century church of St. Anthony of Padua; and the Greek Patriarchate and its Church.  On the 4th day we fly to Izmir on the coast, our base to tour Ephesus where St. Paul caused a riot and the ruined basilica of St. Mary where the Church Council of Ephesus was held in 425 granting Mary the title, Mother of God.  We will take a trip to the Holy House of Mary visited by both Paul VI and John Paul II and Miletus, a city visited by St. Paul.  The cost of this trip for two 4 star hotels inclusive of breakfast and evening meal is £ 729.00 for 30 people; £ 699.00 for 35 people and £ 689.00 for 40 people.  At the meeting last Tuesday 33 people came along who are interested in going.  Anyone else interested there are brochures on the porch table and application forms from Fr. Michael.  We have only 4 places left for a full compliment.  Please join us.
