5th Sunday of Easter

Fr. Agustin writes: In this fifth Sunday of Easter and as we move into the second half of the Easter season we hear the “New Commandment” Jesus gave to his disciples just before his passion and death: “love one another; just as I have loved you, you must also love one another”.  These words take us back to the night of Holy Thursday when we lived out the new commandment.  The love we are called to show to one another was expressed in the washing of feet.  We, like Christ, are called to put ourselves at the feet of our brothers

and sisters to love and serve them.  But it was at the crucifixion when the Lord manifested the depth of his love, offering his life as a ransom for us.  On the cross he became a gift for the whole of humanity, for you and me; the greatest gift that God could possibly give us, his beloved Son.  As we continue to live the Easter mysteries in the liturgies and in our lives, let us reflect on Christ’s love, a resurrected love, a love which has the power to make all things new in our lives, in our relationships, in the world.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jenny Harvey and Peter Rutland who were married in our Church yesterday.

Pilgrimage 2007 (Tuesday 18th September – Tuesday 25th September)

This year I have arranged a parish pilgrimage to Turkey in the steps of St. Paul.  We will depart from Heathrow to Istanbul for a 4 star hotel in Istanbul for three nights.  In Istanbul we will visit the Blue Mosque; the monuments of the Hippodrome; the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit; the Topkapi Palace; the 19th century church of St. Anthony of Padua; and the Greek Patriarchate and its Church.  On the 4th day we fly to Izmir on the coast, our base to tour Ephesus where St. Paul caused a riot and the ruined basilica of St. Mary where the Church Council of Ephesus was held in 425 granting Mary the title, Mother of God.  We will take a trip to the Holy House of Mary visited by both Paul VI and John Paul II and Miletus, a city visited by St. Paul.  The cost of this trip for two 4 star hotels inclusive of breakfast and evening meal is £ 729.00 for 30 people; £ 699.00 for 35 people and £ 689.00 for 40 people.  Anyone else interested there are brochures on the porch table and application forms from Fr. Michael.  We have only 2 places left for a full compliment.  Please join us.
