Fr. Agustin writes: Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord; in this Solemnity we celebrate the last appearance of Jesus to the disciples after the Resurrection. St. Luke tells us in the gospel that before his Ascension the Lord summoned his disciples and sent them out into the world to preach conversion and to baptise. Christ does not leave the disciples alone; he will accompany them in this mission through the Holy Spirit until his return in glory. The Ascension of Jesus to Glory is only part of what we
honour in this feast. The other part of this commemoration is found in the great commission of Christ to his disciples. In their commission we find ours as well. As the Church, we too are sent by the risen, ascended Lord; that is our great Christian vocation, to carry on the mission of Jesus Christ and to lead others to an encounter with him. As we share in his mission so one day we will share in his glory. That is our hope, to be with Christ in heaven seated at the right hand of the Father.
