Fr. Michael writes: This is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent can be an exciting time. In advent the cry goes out for us to wake up, to get rid of our complacency and self-regard and to gird ourselves for the challenge posed by the advent of Christ. It is a good time to come afresh – or even for the first time – to God’s Word, because it is a time of new beginnings. With Isaiah and Mary and all creation we wait expectantly for a birth. Every birthday is a time of wonder and hope, but surrounding this birthday is a simply breath-catching expectancy,
for it celebrates the birth of God’s Son, the Word made Flesh.
