Fr. Agustin writes: Today the first reading presents the powerful story of God’s faithfulness providing water from the rocks of the desert where the Israelites are journeying. The Israelites turn against Moses because they are without water and fear dying in the desert. Moses calls out to God for help and the God of the Covenant answers Moses; water flowed from the rock and the Israelites are saved, God is faithful to his promise. The first reading ends with a question: “Is the Lord in our midst or not?” that question is for us to answer but if
we look at the Gospel of the woman at the well; the answer is that God always goes before us in our lives, struggles and journeys. God waits for us, ready to meet us. Jesus is already there, at the well, waiting for all of us in order to give us life-giving water.
