Palm Sunday

Fr. Michael writes: Palm Sunday inaugurates Holy Week.  On this day the Church celebrates Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem to accomplish the Paschal mystery.  Of all the weeks in the year Holy Week is the one most revered by Christians.  The Church, in celebrating the passion, death and resurrection of Christ, sanctifies and renews herself.  The ceremonies of Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are, in fact, one ceremony divided into three parts.  May I encourage everyone in our parish to come along to the three days and to participate as fully as possible in the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus.  In this newsletter are the times of all Services.

Planned Giving Envelopes

This weekend the new boxes of envelopes for planned giving are available in the porch.  They should not be used until the weekend 5th / 6th April.  Please take a few minutes to collect your box.  If you are new to the parish or would like a box of envelopes, or to join the Gift Aid scheme, or would like to pay by Banker’s Orders, please tell the person with the clipboard and we will arrange your request.

Washing of Feet on Holy Thursday

We need 12 young people for the washing of feet at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday at 8.00 pm.  There is a clipboard out on the table in the porch for you to write your name.

Altar Servers

Copies of the rota for Easter are available in the sacristy but we hope that every server will make every effort to attend each ceremony.  Please take careful note of the times of rehearsals and attend these too.  Finally, if anyone is now unable to serve when they are on the rota will they please find a replacement and amend the copy of the list in the sacristy.

YCAP – Stations of the Cross on Good Friday

On the morning of Good Friday (21st March) at 9.30 am, the Youth Group (Y.C.A.P.) will lead a special presentation of The Stations of The Cross.  A lot of effort has been put into this presentation and we appeal to all members of the parish community, especially to the younger people in the parish to come along for this unique service which presents The Way of The Cross in a media especially chosen by and for young people.

Parish Finances

If you took and completed a form last weekend re: Parish Finances, please return it to the box on the table in the porch.  Forms are still available in the porch with the following suggestions if you can help.

  • Maybe those who are not part of Planned Giving would consider taking a box of weekly envelopes.
  • Those who gift aid might increase their contribution.
  • Those who do not gift aid would consider joining by signing a form and paying a regular amount by either envelopes or Bankers Orders.
  • Many more might consider paying by monthly Bankers Order.

Fairtrade

The Westminster Diocese has asked that all Parishes take an active interest in Fairtrade.  The Fairtrade Mark was established specifically to support the most disadvantaged producers in the world by using trade as a tool for sustainable development.  It is awarded by the Fairtrade Foundation (a registered charity set up by CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Traidcraft Exchange and the World Development Movement) to UK products as a guarantee that the producers have been given a better deal.
We are looking to set up a small team of people to help us make the commitment to become a Fairtrade Church.  If you would be interested in this role please contact Fr. Michael.  For further information on Fairtrade visit www.fairtrade.org.uk or see the green leaflet on the notice board at the back of the Church.
