2nd Sunday of Easter

Fr. Michael writes: :  The world today is full of doubting Thomases as in today’s Gospel. In fact a little of Thomas lurks in all of us.  Many today simply do not believe that Christ is risen and that he can be encountered.  And they will not be converted and believe unless they can touch his wounds and see his face.  How can this happen?  It can happen only if Christ is seen to be alive in us his followers.  He must be seen to dwell in us and among us.  For it is only in us, and through us, that others can see and touch him, and be touched by him and so healed of their unbelief.  Without the Church, the risen Christ would remain invisible, untouchable, faceless.  He lives in his Church.  There he can be encountered, that is he can be touched and he can touch us.

Welcome

Today we welcome Fr. Tom McNamara S.M.A. who will preach at all Masses on behalf of the Society of African Missions.  There will be a retiring collection at all Masses for this worthy cause.

Much thanks

Much thanks for all who made Holy Week and Easter such a success.  This year despite the Siberian weather we had huge crowds.  Special thanks to the Readers and Eucharistic Ministers; Flower Ladies; Servers; Collectors; Cleaners; Folk Group and Choir.
Many thanks too for your Easter cards; presents and Easter Offerings for Fr. Agustin and myself.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Gabriel Tam and Gemma Durnian baptised yesterday.  Congratulations to Emily Bignell baptised at 11.30 am Mass today.
Congratulations to Gladys and Peter Edwards who are celebrating 50 years of marriage and married in our Church.

Parish Office???

As you will have seen in the newsletter we have advertised for a Parish Administrator to commence hopefully in April or May.  All our baptism; wedding; funeral etc. records will then be computerized as will the recording of all our finances – weekly; gift aid and bankers orders.  This is in line with most parishes of the Diocese and hopefully our office will be open five days a week.
I am most grateful to Audrey Rossiter who has helped in the Office for many years and has now finished working.  Kerry who has done all the computer work of our parish voluntarily will also be finishing in the summer as she is expecting a baby.  Congratulations to her.

Parish Pilgrimage Meeting

On Monday 28th April there will be a meeting for all those going on the Fatima and Braga pilgrimage.  Andrew from Pax Travel will be here and by then I will have coach details etc.

Planned Giving Envelopes

This weekend again the new boxes of envelopes for planned giving are available in the porch.  They should not be used until the weekend 5th / 6th April.  Please take a few minutes to collect your box.  If you are new to the parish or would like a box of envelopes, or to join the Gift Aid scheme, or would like to pay by Banker’s Orders, please fill in the form on the clipboard and we will arrange your request.

Marriage Preparation Course

Will take place here in our parish on Saturday 12th April in the Hesdin Hall from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm.  If you wish to apply for a place on this course, please contact Fr. Agustin.

Session on Welcoming Diversity

The diocese invites all catechists to a study session, Welcoming Diversity – designed to look at the basic skills and knowledge we need to understand and deal with diversity in the parish catechetical setting.  Your nearest session will take place on Tuesday 15th April at Most Sacred Heart Ruislip.  Please check the diocesan website for other locations if this one is not convenient www.rcdow.org.uk/evangelisation - booking is essential on 020 7798 9150 or email catadminrcdow.org.uk.  I encourage all catechists to attend this session.

YCAP

The Parish Youth Group will next meet on Sunday 6th April.  If you are between the ages of 13 & 18 please come along and join them in the Coffee Lounge between 7.00 pm & 8.30 pm.

Annual Mass for Migrant Workers

This year, the Mass will take place in Westminster Cathedral on 5th May 2008 at 11.00 am.  His Eminence, Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor will preside at the Mass and The Rt. Reverend Thomas McMahon, Bishop of Brentwood, will preach at the Mass.

Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill

The battle is hotting up and letters from the Cardinal and the Bishops Conference on the subject are still available in the foyer.  If you do not feel able to write there is still time to complete and send one of the protest post cards and make sure that your support is recorded.  The Government seems to be ignoring ethical alternatives to embryonic stem cell research which are equally effective in the fight against disabling illnesses
