Twenty Eighth Sunday of the Year
Fr. Michael writes: : For those who enjoy their food, it is perhaps rather comforting to find heaven described as a banquet in both the Old and New Testaments. The prophet Isaiah speaks of rich food and fine wines. All sadness and suffering is gone. God wishes us only to enjoy the goodness of His abundance. A similar picture is painted in the Gospel. Preparations are being made for a banquet, the wedding feast of the Son. It is strange to understand the attitude of those who have turned down the invitation to attend the King’s Banquet. But we have here at Mass this Sunday and every Sunday a foretaste of that banquet, “the wedding feast of the Lamb” where Christ gives Himself as food at the Eucharist. What greater gift could there be.
Welcome
We welcome this weekend our new Seminarian, Martin Plunkett from Allen Hall Seminary. He will be with us each Sunday for pastoral experience. We pray for him and hope he enjoys coming to us in Ruislip.
Confirmation Catechists
We are still looking for a few people to help as Confirmation catechists for the coming year. Please see Fr. Michael if you can help.
Confirmation Programme 2009
For those in Year 9 and above who would like to join the Confirmation programme for 2009, please write a short letter to Fr. Michael giving your name, address, telephone no, e-mail address and school you attend and we will send out an application form. The parents meeting will be on 3rd February 2009.
Young Adults in the West
Bishop Alan Hopes invites all young adults to a Mass at St. Augustine’s Church, Hammersmith on 26th October at 6.30pm. The focus of the evening will be:- “All you need is love: Loving God, your neighbours and yourself”. This is for all young adults aged between 17 and 35 years.
November Holy Souls
November by tradition is the month of the Holy Souls. At the back of the Church are the Holy Souls envelopes for you to put in your list of deceased family and friends and offerings for Masses. During the month of November those lists will be placed by the altar and remembered at all Masses. Please drop the envelopes back to the Presbytery by the end of October.

On 18th October at 1.00pm there will be a Procession from Westminster Cathedral to Westminster Abbey of the united forces of British prolife groups on behalf of the Unborn Child. We fly from Luton to Pisa return, staying in Hotel Alcide (www.hotelalcide.com) for bed, breakfast and evening meal. Hesdin Hall Licences
When hiring out Hesdin Hall and requiring a paying bar, a temporary licence MUST be obtained from the London Borough of Hillingdon. We only have 12 of these licences per year, therefore please ensure all groups, organisations or individuals hiring the hall for 2009 and wishing to obtain a licence speak to Fr. Michael first who will seek the approval of the Parish Council. Failure to do so, with the appropriate notice period, will result in no licence as we like everybody else must obey the law of the land.
World Mission Sunday
Next Sunday 19th October is World Mission Sunday. This day was established in 1926 and celebrated in 159 countries. In many countries around the world the Church is growing phenomenally quickly, and that growth must be underpinned spiritually and materially. New dioceses are formed; new seminaries are being built because of the growing number of young men responding to the call of priesthood; areas devastated by war or natural disaster need to be rebuilt; other countries long closed off are opening up to hear the message of Christ. Please take an envelope and support the A.P.F, the Association for the Propagation of the Faith in its work next Sunday.
First Friday Lunches
Many thanks to Mary, Anne, Barbara, Roseanne and Nellie who have volunteered to do the First Friday lunches. We are very grateful to them and for the lovely lunch provided and enjoyed by all. The next lunch will be on 7th November. |
Parish Christmas Bazaar
The Christmas Bazaar is our largest fundraiser and last year this day raised just under £5000 for our parish – what a wonderful result! If you, your company or friends can donate a top prize we would be delighted as most of the fundraising is generated through the Grand Prize Draw ticket sales. If you can help please contact Fr. Michael asap as tickets will be printed in the next few weeks |
