Twenty Ninth Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes: : “Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God!” Today I suppose you could say that Caesar’s place is taken by the secular State, that is, the State which is not so much against God as without God. It is a State which no longer bases its laws on God’s laws. In modern states you have a complete separation between Church and State. At times this can pose serious dilemmas for Christians involved in public office but every Christian in the modern world is faced with dilemmas. An example would be the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill which will be debated and voted upon in a few days time and which many of you have written to our MP about. There are so many “Caesars” vying for a piece of our conscience. We must always remember that our conscience belongs to God and whatever else we give to Caesar let us not give him the most precious thing we have.

World Mission Sunday
This Sunday 19th October is World Mission Sunday. This day was established in 1926 and celebrated in 159 countries. In many countries around the world the Church is growing phenomenally quickly, and that growth must be underpinned spiritually and materially. New dioceses are formed; new seminaries are being built because of the growing number of young men responding to the call of priesthood; areas devastated by war or natural disaster need to be rebuilt; other countries long closed off are opening up to hear the message of Christ. Please support the APF, the Association for the Propagation of the Faith in its work this Sunday. As you leave there will be a retiring collection at all Masses.

Congratulations
To Stephanie Pilborough and Martin McGovern who were married in our Church yesterday.

With Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Joe D’Souza whose Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday 23rd October at 10.00am.

Human Fertilisation and Embryogoy Bill
There are just a few days left before the vote on the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill this Wednesday which could make access to abortion easier. If you have not already done so, I do encourage you to e-mail your MP immediately on www.writetothem.com

The Christmas Bazaar is our largest fundraiser and last year this day raised just under £5000 for our parish – what a wonderful result! Michael asap as tickets will be printed in the next few weeks
