Fr. Michael writes: The Lateran Basilica in Rome on the Lateran Hill was built by the Emperor Constantine and is regarded as the Mother and Head of all the Churches of the world. It is the Church of the Pope and it is therefore a sign of unity towards the Pope that we celebrate this feast. When a Church is dedicated it stays dedicated just by being there. But we are a dedicated Church, not because of buildings but because we are a dedicated Community made up of people throughout the world all in unity of faith and united in faith under the leadership of the Pope and the Bishops. This is the relevance of this feast today.
Remembrance Sunday
Today is Remembrance Sunday when we recall and pray for all those killed in the two World Wards. Today we also remember the victims of many wars since then and the victims of terrorism and genocide. We pray for our young people that they may learn the ways of peace and tolerance. We also pray for ourselves that we may seek reconciliation and learn the terrible lessons of war and destruction. Lastly we pray for world leaders that they may always look for peace in our world.
Prisoners Week
This coming week is known as Prisoners Week when we are asked to remember particularly in our prayers the families of prisoners.

The APF red boxes have now been counted up for the year. The amount collected for our Parish for this year for those who have red boxes is a staggering £5042.36. This is beside the retiring collection. All this money goes direct to the Missions, so many thanks to Peter Sinclair, Muriel Honey and all the Promoters and those of you who have red boxes. It is so easy to collect for the Missions by possessing a red box in your home. If you would like to join, then please contact Peter Sinclair. Grateful thanks to all.
Clothing Collection Thanks
The Society of St Vincent de Paul would like to thank everyone who generously donated winter clothing last weekend. The response was outstanding and everything received was taken straight to a homeless shelter in London. The shelter asked us to pass on their thanks to the Parish. We, in the SVP, would again like to thank Andy Loughman for kindly providing his van and his time on the day.
Christmas Bazaar – Saturday 6th December, 10.30am-2.30pm
Collection bins are now in the foyer for your donations. We are looking for unwanted gifts or fancy goods, books, toys, DVDs, "Buy 1 get 1 Free offers", toiletries or jewellery so please drop them into the bins. (Any items of value or bottles please hand in via the Presbytery). There is no Bric-a-Brac stall this year, therefore all items should in a very good and saleable condition and that you would be happy to buy yourself (no broken items or goods that you are throwing away). We will be looking for perishable goods nearer the time. If you can help on the day or with setting up on Friday 5th December, put your name down on the clipboard in the foyer. We require helpers for sorting out next Friday 14th November from 1.00-3.00pm
Sympathy Thanks
Hilary D’Souza would like to thank Fr. Michael, the St Vincent de Paul team and family of the Church of the Most Sacred Heart for their support for her husband Joe during his stay in Ashwood Nursing Home and the sympathy and support offered to her following his death. The assistance offered was much appreciated at this difficult time. May Joe now Rest in Peace.
A Matter of Concern
The Sunday Express recently headlined “TV’s Most Shocking Drama Ever” which is in regard to a BBC TV Drama 6 part series called “Apparitions” with Martin Shaw as a Roman Catholic Priest. It features gay sex, murder and Blessed Mother Teresa on her death bed inhabited by demons. This series is likely, yet again, to be a breach of the Broadcasting Code, and offensive to the Christian community. If you find this offensive after the first part, then please write to Ofcom, The Contact Centre, Riverside House, 2A Southwark Bridge Road, London, SE1 9HA or e-mail www.ofcom.org.ukOR BBC Complaints, PO Box 1922, Glasgow, G2 3WT or www.bbc.co.uk/complaints. You must give details of your complaint. One thing is sure, Christians must not sit back.
Confirmation 2009
