Invitation to our Children
This Christmas for the 7.00pm Vigil Mass I would like to invite all the girls to come dressed as angels and all the boys as shepherds and process out with me to the crib. I tell you now as you still have lots of time to sort out your costume.

Christmas Message
This weekend again a copy of the Christmas Message with the times of all the Christmas and New Year services will be available in the porch. Please take a copy and keep it safe.

Westminster Year Books
These are usually on sale in the Repository at this time of the year but the printers have informed us that they will not arrive in parishes until about 16th December.

Christmas Envelopes
This weekend Christmas Envelopes are available at the back of the Church. These are for your gifts to the priests of our Parish at Christmas. It is this money with the Easter collection which makes up our annual salary as priests. Please take an envelope and if you are not here over Christmas, drop it in beforehand.

Altar Servers
Please will all servers fill in the list in the sacristy THIS WEEKEND to indicate which Mass they will be attending at Christmas?  All Altar Servers are also reminded that they should attend their Annual Festal Mass at 10.30am on the Feast of St Stephen, 26th December, when new servers will receive their medals and one server will receive their Silver Medal

Mass/Hymn Books
It would be helpful if Mass and Hymn books could be put back at the end of our Masses as many of them lying on the floor have been torn. Thank you for this.

Hesdin Hall Bookings 2009
Please note all hall bookings requiring a drinks licence for 2009 must be arranged through Nicola in the Presbytery and we can only have 12 licences a year

Readers Rotas
Would all readers please pick up updated rotas from Sacristy

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Fr. Michael writes: As the birth of a child draws near, naturally all attention focuses on the mother. We are nearing the celebration of the birth of Christ. Hence it should come as no surprise to find that Mary his Mother is at the centre of today’s Gospel. Mary was a very humble person. A mere handmaid of the Lord was how she saw herself. Her only concern was to the will of God in her life. She will help us to do it also if we turn to her..

Many Thanks
To all who came along to the Carol Service last Sunday – to those who read; the groups who sang and to the UCM for mulled wine and mince pies. It was a wonderful evening.

I give below the days and times of services for the coming week and New Year. Please note times, especially the time of Midnight Mass – 10.00pm. These times are also in the Christmas Message and on the doors and windows of the porch. The Bethany Tree is in the front of the Church. Please take a tag and write on it the names of deceased loved ones or those far away this Christmas and we will remember them in our prayers.

The Reconciliation Service in preparation for Christmas will take place tomorrow, Monday 22nd December at 7.30pm. Bishop John Arnold and six priests will be available. This is the best preparation we have for Christmas. Please tell your family and friends to come along,

Baptism
Parishioners who want to have their children baptised in our parish are asked to attend a Baptismal course. Parishioners are those are registered and who come regularly to the sacraments in this parish. The next course will be on Monday 5th January. For more information or to book a baptism, please contact Nicola in the office.

Marriage
If you are planning to get married in the first half of 2009 either here or abroad, please can you come and register with Fr. Michael. You need to give at least 6 months’ notice so that marriage preparation and all the paperwork can be completed.

Congratulations
Many congratulations to Douay Martyrs School on their recent Ofsted Inspection. The school was judged as good in all areas with outstanding features in the Catholic life of the school. The Inspection can be downloaded but I give two quotations:- “The relatively new head teacher has set high standards and developed a shared vision that is rapidly moving the school forward”. “The results for 2008 show the percentage of students gaining five or more A* to C with English and Mathematics rose considerably to above the national average”. Well done!

2009 Catholic Diaries
Catholic diaries are out in the porch and you are welcome to take one and place a donation in the box marked ‘Newspapers’
