Congratulations
Many congratulations to Douay Martyrs School on their recent Ofsted Inspection. The school was judged as good in all areas with outstanding features in the Catholic life of the school. The Inspection can be downloaded but I give two quotations:- “The relatively new head teacher has set high standards and developed a shared vision that is rapidly moving the school forward”. “The results for 2008 show the percentage of students gaining five or more A* to C with English and Mathematics rose considerably to above the national average”. Well done!
Mass/Hymn Books
It would be helpful if Mass and Hymn books could be put back at the end of our Masses as many of them lying on the floor have been torn. Thank you for this.

Fr. Michael writes: Will the family as we know it still exist in twenty years time? Some people today seem to doubt it. In celebrating the Feast of the Holy Family, the Church is not only asking us to recall the relationship of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in the carpenter’s home in Nazareth. She is reminding us that the family is a society which nurtures and cultivates holiness. The family shows us the Church in miniature. The Second Vatican Council said that the family is the domestic Church. The home, therefore, has a sacramental setting and the love of husband and wife, parents and children, is caught up in God’s love and made holy. Home and family relationships are the very material from which God weaves his pattern of holiness, the very root of Christian growth. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family but we can really celebrate family life for all and pray for our own family today.
Pastoral Letter
Today at all Masses there is a Pastoral Letter from His Eminence Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’Connor, to mark the Feast of the Holy Family.

To everyone who helped to make Christmas such a lovely celebration in our parish, to the Choir, Sarah and the Folk Group, Adrian our Organist; Clement and the altar servers; Readers and Eucharistic Ministers; the Flower Ladies for the lovely floral arrangements; collectors and sidesmen; sacristans and cleaners and Andy and Co. for the cribs and Christmas Trees, also to Nicola, our Parish Secretary. Grateful thanks also to the vast numbers who attended all of our Christmas Services from the Carol Concert; the Reconciliation Service and all of our Christmas Masses. Is religion dying out?
