Fourth Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes: When St. Mark begins telling his story of the ministry of Jesus, he shows how Jesus is invested with the power of the Spirit at his baptism and thus acts with authority. The power that moves Jesus has its source in God; the authority that Jesus displays, both in his actions and words, is the authority of God Himself. In today’s Gospel Jesus’ teaching is seen in action. There is a confrontation between good and evil and at the command of Jesus, the possessed man is freed. The people are astonished and marvel at his authority. As we listen to the Word of God each Sunday, how are we moved? Do we find nourishment for our lives in the words of Christ?

Welcome
Today we welcome Fr. Tom McNamara who is a missionary of the Society of Missionaries to Africa and who will celebrate 8.30am and 10.00am Mass.

First Holy Communion Children
At 10.00am Mass today we welcome all the children who are preparing to receive First Holy Communion in May.

Baptism Congratulations
Congratulations to Caitlin Prunty who is being baptised at 11.30am Mass in our Church today.

Retiring Collection
Next Sunday is Education Day when we pray for everyone involved in education. At all Masses next weekend there is a retiring collection for the Catholic Education Service which is the Body which advises the Bishops on issues and matters of education. Please be generous.

If you have a child born between 1st Sept - 31st Aug 2006 you will need to apply for a nursery place. Applications forms are being posted in the coming week to all families on the school list and will need to be returned to the school no later than Fri 27th February 2009. If you do not receive an application form, please contact the school office and one  will be sent to you.

Anniversaries
Each week as a matter of practice anniversary names are inserted in the newsletter. Some of these names go back to the 1970’s and are just taken from a book kept over the years. As from now if an Anniversary Mass is booked for that week, the name will be inserted in the list of anniversaries. Otherwise if you wish a name to be included in the newsletter list of anniversaries you should let Nicola in the Parish Office know at least a week beforehand. If you are booking an anniversary mass please say so on the envelope so that it may be read out as an anniversary of death.
