Parish Priest: Fr. Michael Johnston
Parish Administrator: Nicola Burke
Fr. Michael writes: The Gospel tells us that “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains but a single grain, but if it dies it yields a rich harvest. Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Jesus is revealing to his disciples the secret of his own life and encouraging us in how to live our lives. How contradictory it may seem as far as this world is concerned, it is through dying to self and in giving for others, that we find life and our own true selves”. It is not easy but unless we try we will not grow. Let us ask Our Lord to help us in this way that leads to life.
Preparation for Lent
We are now in the Fifth week of Lent. If, so far you feel you have not begun or have failed miserably, do not worry, just begin again. Here again are some suggestions:-
Weekday Mass – 10.00am daily. Why not try to attend Mass each day during Lent?
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament– Takes place in the Church each day from 10.30am-12.00 noon. Why not take the time to pop into Church, even for a few minutes to keep company with Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament?
Rosary– Every morning at 9.30am in the Church, the rosary is recited. The rosary is a lovely way to pray and to start the day.
Thursday Night Prayer Group– Every Thursday at 8.00pm in the Warrender Room, open to all who wish to develop their prayer life in a group.
Stations of the Cross– Take place every Friday of Lent at 7.00pm in the Church.
Confessions – Takes place every Saturday from 10.30am-11.30am and 5.15pm-5.30pm. Reconciliation Service with Bishop John Arnold on Monday 6th April at 7.30pm.
Lenten Alms for the St. John Southworth Fund for the Poor and School Building in Bangladesh. See wall box under Stations of the Cross II.
