Diocesan Young Adult Pilgrimage to Taize, France – 8-16 Aug ‘09
Join Bishop John Arnold and other young adults (18-30s) from around the Diocese on pilgrimage to this unique Christian Community. For further details contact Dave Burke on 020 7798 9357 or e-mail: davidburke@rcdow.org.uk
Do you have a couple of hours free on Thursday mornings and enjoy being around babies and toddlers?
If the answer is yes, the Sacred Heart Mother and Baby Group needs your help. We are looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen providing soft drinks for the children and hot drinks for the mums. Currently the mums are doing this but it’s hard to get volunteers because they are often worried about leaving their small children unattended. If you are interested in helping or would like more info, please call Patsy Conquer or Juliette Kerin before 8.00pm.
Altar Servers
There is now a list in the Sacristy for the Confirmation Mass which is on Sat 30th May at 11:30am. If you are able to serve their Mass, please put your name on the list.

Parish Priest: Fr. Michael Johnston
Parish Administrator: Nicola Burke
Fr. Michael writes: Christianity overturns the values of our world and our expectations. This is the message of the first reading today. Sometimes it is easy for us to judge or to assume that we know what God wants. But God is bigger than our human minds and we have to be willing to adjust. The disciples have been the religious Jews – they think they know what God expects in religion. After all they are the Chosen People. But they have to rethink. They discover the good news is for Pagans and Jews alike. The only requirements are an acceptance of Jesus and an openness to receive the Holy Spirit. We must strive not to put any obstacles where God has placed none.
Welcome Back
Today at 10.00am Mass we welcome back all the children who made their First Holy Communion over the past couple of weeks. Do please bring the children regularly to Mass and Holy Communion and also into the pattern of coming to the Sacrament of Confession. Many thanks to all involved – the catechists; the folk group; Adrian our organist; the sidesmen; floral ladies; Eucharistic Ministers and Servers. All of the celebrations were lovely thanks to all.
Deepest Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Teresa Cox whose Funeral Mass takes place this Friday 22nd May at 10.00am, with Reception of the body on Thursday 21st May at 5.00pm.
Flowers in May
This month of May is by tradition the month in the Church dedicated to Mary. In our Church we have a lovely side chapel and statue of Mary. I would encourage those with gardens and flowers to bring flowers in for our side chapel to Mary during the month of May. Our floral ladies group will keep an eye to make sure they are kept fresh. Some people may prefer to buy some flowers rather than take them from their gardens, but either way it would be lovely if during May our side chapel was decorated with flowers.
Sacred Heart 70th Anniversary
Please keep free Friday 12th June at 7.30pm when Bishop George Stack will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving for the 70th Anniversary of the opening of our present Church which was opened and consecrated on 15th June 1939. The lists for food are at the back of the Church. Please sign up if you can provide something. Do try to keep the evening free to come along.
Comboni Missionaries
Next weekend we have an appeal and retiring collection for the Comboni Missionaries. These are an international group of men and women committed to Mission and to witnessing to the Gospel amongst those disadvantaged by injustice, poverty and discrimination. They number around 4,000 priests; sisters and brothers who work in 46 countries. They take their name from Daniel Comboni who was born at Limone, on Lake Garda in 1831 and died in Khartoum, Sudan in 1881. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 2003. Please be generous next weekend.
Mary Rocks, R.I.P
Mary’s husband, Mark, with her parents and brother wish to give their heartfelt thanks to Fr. Michael and all those who attended Mary’s recent funeral, as well as to all who kindly sent their expressions of sympathy and support.
Adult Faith Formation Programme
The Diocese would like to know of some people in our parish who would be interested in developing an Adult Faith Formation Programme in our parish. They are organising two seminars with this in mind, both at Vaughan House, Westminster. If you would like to be part of this ministry, please let me know as soon as possible.
Archbishop of Westminster
Next Thursday at noon Archbishop Vincent Nichols is to be installed as the Eleventh Archbishop of Westminster. I understand that it will be televised. Please pray for him as he begins this important ministry. Following his installation as Archbishop of the Westminster Archdiocese on 21st May 2009, Archbishop Vincent would like to visit the different areas of the Diocese in order to meet the clergy and people and to celebrate Mass together. He will celebrate Mass for the people of our Deaneries at Ealing Abbey on Thursday 4th June at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.
Pro-Life Times
After each Mass this weekend the SPUC paper will be available FREE. Please take one and pray for the people of our country that we may develop a culture that will support and honour human life. This is an urgent request.
