Sacred Heart Church Choir & Folk Group
Do you enjoy singing? Are you afraid to join a choir because you don’t think you’re good enough? Not enough time to make it to practices? Perhaps you’re shy about making a commitment that you might not be able to keep? The Sacred Heart Church Choir is relaxed, informal and immensely enjoyable, but we want even more voices. We lead the congregation every 11.30am Sunday Mass, so why not pop up to the Choir Loft after Mass.

Folk Group
The folk group too is open to new members. If you sing/play an instrument, this is a lovely way of participating at Mass. They play on the 1st + 3rd Sundays at 10.00am. Please speak to Sarah O’Donnell after one of the Masses.

Twelfth Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes:  The Gospel today is about the storm on the lake, the fear of the disciples and Christ who speaks to the wind causing a great calm. Life for us can be free and easy, but suddenly we can be cast down. All it takes is a piece of bad news or some disappointment and our whole world can become dark and sombre. In such moments, who will save us from drowning and help us to keep our lives on course. It is Jesus Christ. If we call our to him in times of distress, as the apostles did, we will hear his gentle voice saying to us:- “Fear not, for I am with you”.

Farewell Mass
As the school finishes the weekend of 18th/19th July, I would like to invite you to my Farewell Mass on Sunday 19th July at 6.00pm. I will leave for holidays on Monday 27th July and return just for two days in September before commencing my life at Notting Hill parish.

Welcome
While I am away on pilgrimage Fr. Thyagu is looking after the parish. We are very grateful to him.

Retiring Collection
Next weekend there will be a retiring collection for Peter’s Pence. This collection is a worldwide collection which goes towards the running costs of the Vatican and its various offices.

Date for Your Diary
This year’s Parish Picnic takes place on Sunday 12th July from 2.00pm-5.00pm at Kings College Fields. Games and fun for all the family. Bar facilities and refreshments available. All are welcome.

From Marian Lally – Chair of Parish Council
As everyone knows Fr. Michael will be leaving our parish at the end of July to begin at Notting Hill in September. On Sunday 19th July the Farewell Mass at 6.00pm will be followed by a Reception in Hesdin Hall. All are welcome to come along. To mark his leaving we hope to have a Presentation on that evening in the Hall. Envelopes are available from this weekend at the back of the Church. Please take an envelope to be returned to Nicola in the parish office or for the retiring collection on 12th July. Nicola and I will be at the back of the church after all Masses this weekend with the donation envelopes and also with a leaving card for you to record your good wishes for Fr. Michael. Lists of food are also now at the back of the church, please sign up if you can provide something for the occasion.

New Altar Servers

If you made your First Holy Communion in 2008 or earlier and think you would like to be an Altar Server, you are invited to find out more at a meeting this Wednesday 24th June at 7.00pm in the Church. A parent should accompany you to this meeting

RCIA
The RCIA will begin again in September. If you know of someone – husband, wife, friend, neighbour who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling them to become a Catholic, then please ask them and if so, either you or they should contact me and I will give you further information. The important thing to remember is that we are all called to be evangelizers and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ

Flowers in June
June is by tradition in the Church the month of the Sacred Heart. During May many people have been most generous in bringing in flowers for the altar and statue of Our Lady. I think it would be very nice to do the same for the Sacred Heart, so that the altar will be full of flowers in thanksgiving to the Sacred Heart for so many blessings. Our floral ladies will be happy to place them in vases.

St. Therese of Lisieux
As you may have read the Relics of St. Therese of Lisieux will be visiting England and Wales in September/October. They will be at the Carmelite Church, Kensington on 11-12 October and Westminster Cathedral from 12-15 October. St. Therese said:- “I will spend my Heaven doing good on earth. She is very much a saint for our time showing us the little way to sanctity. Two useful websites are www.catholicrelics.co.uk and www.therese oflisieux.org. Do try and make an effort to attend one of the venues.
