Pro-Life Petition Day – Saturday 4 July
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children’s (SPUC) will be staging a Child Protection Petition Day on Saturday 4 July. The petition to the Prime Minister is seeking to stop secondary schools being used as abortion referral centres. The key issues are: the government is (1) giving school nurses and other advisors of school children, a clear remit to refer for abortions without informing parents (2) insisting that information on how to get an abortion is included in sex education lessons and (3) establishing school-based sexual health clinics in secondary schools. SPUC is aiming to gather half a million signatures and bring pressure to bear on the Government to reverse its policy. Please add your signature to the petition on the table in the porch.

Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul

Fr. Michael writes:  In celebrating Peter and Paul we bless God for gracing them for their mission in the life of the Church. Today the Church still needs their different gifts and their shared commitment. Christians throughout the world still need a Petrine figure to unite the Church community and to be a source of unity and strength. Christians still need apostles like Paul, people on fire with the love of Christ who can reach out to all people with a faith that is energetic. Both are pillars of the Church. They lit a fire in the hearts of people that has not gone out after 2000 years. For that we thank and praise God.

Farewell Mass
As the school finishes the weekend of 18th/19th July, I would like to invite you to my Farewell Mass on Sunday 19th July at 6.00pm. I will leave for holidays on Monday 27th July and return just for two days in September before commencing my life at Notting Hill parish.

A Warm Welcome
To Fr. Daniel Palau who is the first of our supply priests for the summer. He has been studying in Rome and comes from Spain. We welcome him to our parish

Deepest Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Doreen Gladys Wade whose Funeral Mass takes place this Thursday 2nd July at 10.00am.

Pauline Year
We thank God for the Pauline Year given to us by Pope Benedict which finishes today.

Retiring Collection
This weekend there will be a retiring collection for Peter’s Pence. This collection is a worldwide collection which goes towards the running costs of the Vatican and its various offices.

Date for Your Diary
This year’s Parish Picnic takes place on Sunday 12th July from 2.00pm-5.00pm at Kings College Fields. Games and fun for all the family. Bar facilities and refreshments available. All are welcome.

From Marian Lally – Chair of Parish Council
As everyone knows Fr. Michael will be leaving our parish at the end of July to begin at Notting Hill in September. On Sunday 19th July the Farewell Mass at 6.00pm will be followed by a Reception in Hesdin Hall. All are welcome to come along. To mark his leaving we hope to have a Presentation on that evening in the Hall. Envelopes are available from this weekend at the back of the Church. Please take an envelope to be returned to Nicola in the parish office or for the retiring collection on 12th July. If you did not manage to record your good wishes in the leaving card last weekend, this card is now in the parish office and can be signed on Wednesdays only from 9.00-1.00 until 12th July. Lists of food are also now at the back of the church, please sign up if you can provide something for the occasion.

RCIA
The RCIA will begin again in September. If you know of someone – husband, wife, friend, neighbour who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling them to become a Catholic, then please ask them and if so, either you or they should contact me and I will give you further information. The important thing to remember is that we are all called to be evangelizers and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ

St. Therese of Lisieux
As you may have read the Relics of St. Therese of Lisieux will be visiting England and Wales in September/October. They will be at the Carmelite Church, Kensington on 11-12 October and Westminster Cathedral from 12-15 October. St. Therese said:- “I will spend my Heaven doing good on earth. She is very much a saint for our time showing us the little way to sanctity. Two useful websites are www.catholicrelics.co.uk and www.therese oflisieux.org. Do try and make an effort to attend one of the venues.

Preparation for First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion – 2009/2010
Parents of all children who will be starting Year 3 in September 2009, and who belong to this parish, are invited to attend an information and registration meeting at the Hesdin Hall on Thursday 17th September 2009 at 8.00pm. It is expected that all children who do not attend a Catholic School complete Year 2 at Sunday Group before they undertake sacramental preparation
