Fifteenth Sunday of the Year

Fr. Michael writes: Jesus involved the apostles in his work. He sent them out in twos into all the surrounding villages. In that way he shared his divine mission with them. He game them his own authority and power. He knew well that they would make mistakes. This is not surprising since they were very ordinary men. Amos, whom we met in the first reading, was a simple shepherd. Yet God called him and sent him to preach a message of repentance to his people. Most of the apostles were fishermen. Yet Jesus did not hesitate to share his work with them. More surprising still, the day came when he entrusted his entire work to them. In the same way each of us is responsible for a small corner of the world where it is up to us to make the influence of Christ known.

Farewell Mass
Fr. Michael will celebrate the 6.00pm Mass next Sunday 19th July to mark his leaving our parish and this will be followed by a Reception at Hesdin Hall. There are lists of food at the back of the Church – please sign up if you can provide something for the occasion. Fr. Michael’s new address is as follows:- St Francis of Assisi Church, Pottery Lane, London, W11 4NQ, Tel: 020 7727 7968, e-mail: michaeljohnston@rcdow.org.uk

Wedding Congratulations
To Charlene De Matos and Daniel Booth who were married in our Church yesterday and to Nicole Hanson and Darren Bond married on Saturday 27th June.

Baptism Congratulations
To Darcy Ubertowski and Lily Nugent baptised at 11.30am Mass today.

Deepest Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Nora Buckley whose Funeral Mass takes place this Thursday 16th July at 10.00am and also to the family of George Pereira whose Funeral Mass takes place this Friday 17th July at 10.00am.

From Marian Lally – Chair, Parish Council
This weekend at all Masses is an opportunity to return your envelopes for Fr. Michael’s presentation or to contribute in the retiring collection. If you have forgotten your envelope it may be dropped into the Presbytery door until next Friday. The amount collected will be presented to Fr. Michael next Sunday evening at the Reception in Hesdin Hall. In addition, your final opportunity to sign Fr. Michael’s card is this Wednesday 15th July from 9.00-1.00 in the parish office. The Parish Council have tried to organise the Presentation without Fr. Michael’s knowledge and that is why it was initiated while he was on pilgrimage. Although since returning he now knows there is a Presentation, we are striving to arrange this without any consultation with him. Hence please do not hand a Presentation envelope to him.

Parish Picnic
This afternoon from 2.00-5.00 we have our parish picnic at King’s College Fields. Games, sports and fun for all the family. Bar facilities and refreshments available. All are welcome.

Most Sacred Heart 70th Anniversary Photographs
The photographs taken at the 70th Anniversary of our Church are now on the parish website. Do have a look at them.

RCIA
The RCIA will begin again in September. If you know of someone – husband, wife, friend, neighbour who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling them to become a Catholic, then please ask them and if so, either you or they should contact me and I will give you further information. The important thing to remember is that we are all called to be evangelizers and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ

St. Therese of Lisieux
As you may have read the Relics of St. Therese of Lisieux will be visiting England and Wales in September/October. They will be at the Carmelite Church, Kensington on 11-12 October and Westminster Cathedral from 12-15 October. St. Therese said:- “I will spend my Heaven doing good on earth. She is very much a saint for our time showing us the little way to sanctity. Two useful websites are www.catholicrelics.co.uk and www.therese oflisieux.org. Do try and make an effort to attend one of the venues.

Preparation for First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion – 2009/2010
Parents of all children starting Year 3 in September 2009, and who belong to this parish, are invited to attend an information and registration meeting at the Hesdin Hall on Thursday 17th September 2009 at 8.00pm. It is expected that all children who do not attend a Catholic School complete Year 2 at Sunday Group before they undertake sacramental preparation
