Twenty Seventh Sunday of the Year

Fr. Duncan writes:  Dear Parishioners, This week our ‘special children’ and their parents begin their preparation for the great Sacrament of Reconciliation. This can also be thought of as a Sacrament of God’s love. When we make a mistake or do something wrong, we are likely to be ‘told off’ or punished in some way. But, when we humbly go before God our Father asking his forgiveness, he does not tell us off. He shows us the warmth of his love and welcomes us with open arms. Think of the parable of the Prodigal Son. The son is not punished, but welcomed with open arms. Let us remember what we pray each day in the Lord’s prayer, ‘Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us’.

CAFOD Harvest Fast Day Collection
“I like working hard for the sake of my dignity… but life has changed, now it’s about survival”, Margaret Mueni, Kenya. People like Margaret have spent years working their way out of poverty but world problems, including the financial crisis have knocked them down again. This Harvest we’re appealing for funds to support millions in urgent need. Your generosity will show the world’s poorest that they’re not alone at this critical time. This weekend there will be a retiring collection for CAFOD following the savings we’ve made from the Harvest Fast Day on Friday, please give generously.

Induction Mass
On Friday 30th October at 7.00pm we will welcome Bishop Alan Hopes to formally induct Fr. Duncan as Parish Priest in Ruislip. The Mass will be followed by a Reception in Hesdin Hall, food lists will be displayed shortly at the back of the church.

Parish Christmas Fayre
Saturday 5th December is the date for the 2009 Christmas Fayre. The Fayre is our largest fundraiser and last year we raised just over £7,000 towards the general refurbishment and upkeep of the parish and is our best achievement to date. But this event would not be so successful without you, the parishioners help and support. We are currently looking for top prizes for our Grand Prize draw and to start us off our 1st prize is £250 cash. If you, your company or friends can donate a top prize we would be delighted as the Grand Prize Draw ticket sales generate about 20% of the money raised. If you can help please contact the Presbytery or Susan O'Brien on 01895 633756 as soon as possible as tickets will be printed in the next few weeks.

Jubilee Trust Quiz Night
Our quiz night will be held on 23rd October at 8.00pm. This will be a table quiz with a maximum of 8 people per table and tickets are £5.00 per person available on the night. Tables can be made up on the night so don’t be put off if you want to come on your own. Bring your own drinks and/or nibbles. Individual prizes for the winning table and a raffle.

200 Club
The 200 Club is a monthly prize draw open to all parishioners and their friends and family. Each October we ask for 200 people to join by paying a £15 yearly subscription and they are entered in the monthly draw for cash prizes between £50-£400. If you have not yet returned your 200 Club envelope, please do so as soon as possible as only the first 200 people to return the form will be able to participate in the prize draw for the coming year.
