Baptism of Our Lord

Fr. Duncan writes: Today we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. Jesus was baptised in the Jordan by John. We see the revelation to John of the identity of Jesus through the descent of the Holy Spirit and the voice from heaven. We then see John the Baptist stepping aside in order that God might work directly among his people in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ. When Jesus is baptised in the Jordan, he receives the power of the Spirit to begin his ministry, the work he was sent to do. The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord marks the beginning of the public mission of Jesus.

The Sacrament of Confirmation
Bishop Alan Hopes will be coming to our parish to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation in July this year. If there are any young people from our parish, in Year 9 or above, who wish to be confirmed this year, they should write to Fr. Duncan now. Their letter should include name, address, telephone number, date of birth and school attended. The application list closes on 31st January. The young people themselves should be thinking about this Sacrament, and so they should write the letter themselves.

Communion Parents
The next talk for all First Communion parents will take place on Monday 18th January 2010 at 8.00pm in Hesdin Hall.

Baptism
Parishioners who want to have their children baptised in our parish are asked to attend a Baptismal course. Parishioners are those are registered and who come regularly to the sacraments in this parish. For more information or to book a baptism, please contact Nicola in the office.

With Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Peter Hench whose Funeral Mass takes place this Tuesday 12th January at 10.00am and Rosaleen Quinn (sister of Michael Clarke of South Ruislip) whose Funeral Mass takes place next Saturday 16th January at 10.00am with burial in Leamington Spa.

Michael Clarke, R.I.P (South Ruislip)
Michael Clarke who was well-known in this Parish sadly passed away on Christmas Eve morning. His Funeral Mass will take place on Friday 15th January at 10.00am at St Gregory the Great, 477 Victoria Road, South Ruislip followed by cremation at Breakspear Crematorium. Reception will be in the Hall at St. Gregory’s and all are welcome. All donations please to McMillan Cancer Centre at Mount Vernon Hospital.

Celia King, R.I.P
Former parishioner Celia King has died peacefully in her sleep, aged 89. She will be known to many older parishioners for the active part she played in the life of the parish from 1947-2000. Celia was a tireless contributor to parish groups and was especially involved in providing support for the homeless. Celia attended Mass daily and was a regular reader at Sunday mass. She could always be called upon at short notice by the Parish Priest to help out, such as putting up visitors to the parish. Celia and her husband Joe lived for many years in Broadwood Avenue where they brought up their 4 children. For the past decade, she lived in a care home close to her family in Devon. Celia’s funeral is taking place in Devon and a Requiem Mass will be held in Sacred Heart at a later date.
