Third Sunday of Easter

Fr. Duncan writes: Dear Parishioners,
Our thoughts and prayers this week have been with the Polish Community as they mourn the loss of all those killed in the plane crash last weekend. Let us keep in mind Canon Bronislaw Gotomski who was Parish Priest at the Polish Church of St Andrew Bobola in Shepherds Bush. He will be well known to many of our Polish parishioners. As Archbishop Nichols wrote on Monday, ‘His death brings this disaster for the entire Polish people very close to home for us all.’  May Mary, the most merciful Mother of God, be with all those who have suffered in this disaster.
Next Saturday evening we welcome our Confirmation Candidates to the 6.00pm Mass. It is at this Mass they will be formally enrolled on their course of preparation. They come together in our church to ask your prayers as they take this next step on their journey of faith and prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep our candidates, their parents and catechists in your prayers at this time.
Next Sunday is Vocations Sunday when we are asked to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We are fortunate to have David Semivule, a first year student from our Diocesan Seminary, Allen Hall with us in our parish on Sundays during this year. Please keep him and all our seminarians in your prayers. It is also the day when we take up the collection for WEEF, the Priest Training Fund
May the blessings of the Risen Christ be with you all this Easter. Fr Duncan.

The Priest Training Fund Collection
The annual collection for the priest Training Fund (WEEF) will be taken up next weekend. It is one of the very important collections that we are asked to support. This fund supports the men who are in training for the priesthood and who will serve us as priests in our diocese. The very encouraging news is that there are now more men training for the priesthood than at any time in the last ten years. There are now over 40 seminarians at present in training. Our prayers for more priests really are being answered and it is now up to us to ensure that there is enough money to cover the cost of their training and our seminary. The preparation of new priests takes six years and this work depends on our donations. Please be as generous as you can in the collection. If you are a UK taxpayer, please complete the gift aid declaration on the special WEEF envelopes, so that the tax can be reclaimed.

Wedding Congratulations
To Michael McVeigh and Karen Smithers who were married in our Church on Friday.

Confirmation Mass
Just a reminder that Confirmation classes restart this Tuesday 20th April, 7.30-8.45pm. There will be a Confirmation Mass of Enrolment next Saturday 24th April at 6.00pm.

With Deepest Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Helen McNamara whose Funeral Mass takes place this Wednesday 21st April at 10.00am.

This Is My Body
Every Wednesday at 8.00pm, starting 28th April 2010 for 7 weeks, there will be a series of talks, on DVD. This is an engaging resource designed to inform, inspire and raise prayerful discussion about the great gift of the Mass. Depending on numbers, the talks will be held either in the coffee lounge or hall. All are cordially invited.

Make Global Poverty An Election Issue
CAFOD needs your help to get international development on the agenda before the General Election. The following questions are being asked:- 1) Will you support work towards a fair and legally binding global climate deal? Will you commit to 40% cuts in carbon emissions by 2020? 2) Will you make the UK’s aid commitment to give 0.7% of gross national income legally binding? 3) How will you support measures to ensure that UK companies act responsibly, against tax evasion and corruption?
