Sixth Sunday of Easter

Fr. Duncan writes: Dear Parishioners, This Sunday is the second of our Parish First Communion Sundays. At the 10.00am and 11.30am Masses 27 of our younger parishioners will be receiving Jesus for the first time in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Please pray for them, their parents and catechists as they complete their preparations for these special days.
I am particularly grateful to Mrs Sandra Mace and Mrs Jeanette Butler and their teams of catechists, who have been teaching the children and have prepared them for these special days.
Next Sunday we celebrate the feast of ASCENSION OF THE LORD. The Bishops of England and Wales moved this feast to the seventh Sunday of Easter a few years ago.

World Communications Day
This year’s World Communications Day falls next Sunday, 16th May. The theme is The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has released his message for World Communications Day 2010. The theme ties in with the Church’s “Year for Priests”, that runs until June 2010. Pope Benedict calls for priests to discover new digital possibilities to proclaim the Word of God and carry out their ministry. There will be a retiring collection after all Masses next weekend to support this work.

Special Prayers in May
In their statement of child abuse, the Bishops have asked that in each parish there should be a period of prayer on each of the four Fridays of May asking for ‘healing, forgiveness and renewed dedication.’ We will have some prayers as we begin the period of Exposition on Friday mornings. On Friday evenings there will be prayers added at the evening Mass. If you cannot join us in church, please keep these intentions in your prayers on the Fridays of May.

Children’s Liturgy
Please note forthcoming dates for the Children's Liturgy of the Word which takes place on Sunday at 10.00am Mass: 16th and 30th May, 13th, 20th and 27th June and 11th July.

A reminder to all those in Group B that your training resumes this coming Wednesday (12th May) at 6.30pm when we hope to see all those who were unable to attend on 28th April.

This Is My Body
Every Wednesday at 8.00pm, running from 28th April 2010 for 7 weeks, there is a series of talks, on DVD. This is an engaging resource designed to inform, inspire and raise prayerful discussion about the great gift of the Mass. Depending on numbers, the talks will be held either in the coffee lounge or hall. All are cordially invited.

Flowers in May
May is by tradition the month in the Church dedicated to Mary. In our Church we have a lovely side chapel and statue of Mary. I would like to invite those with gardens and flowers to bring flowers in for our side chapel to Mary during this month of May. Our floral ladies group will keep an eye to make sure they are kept fresh. Some people may prefer to buy some flowers rather than take them from their gardens, but either way it would be lovely if during May our side chapel was decorated with flowers.

CAFOD Talk – Thursday 13th May – Greenford
You are invited to a talk by Tony Sheen about CAFOD’s work in the shanty towns of San Paulo, Brazil. This talk will take place at Our Lady of the Visitation, Parish Centre, 358 Greenford Road, Greenford, UB6 9AN on Thursday 13th May at 7.45pm.
