Ascension of The Lord

Fr. Duncan writes: Dear Parishioners, Today we celebrate the feast of the Ascension. The infant church gathered on a hillside in Galilee in obedience to Christ’s command. We, too, gather as the Church in obedience to Christ. We do so in the joyful celebration of Christ’s Ascension. We do so in the knowledge that he promised to be with us always. Each of us shares in the power of the risen Christ through the Spirit. Freed from all that holds us back our task is to be living witnesses of his love.
On the last two Sundays we have had our Parish First Communion Sundays when sixty-nine Special Children received Jesus for the first time in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. A very memorable day for the children and their families. I would like to thank all those who helped with the days especially our Catechists, Special Ministers, flower arrangers, choirs, servers and all others who were involved with the day. May God bless you all.
We are looking forward to seeing the first communion children and their parents next Sunday 23rd May at 10.00am at the Sending Forth Mass.

World Communications Day
Today is World Communications Day. The theme is The Priest and Pastoral Ministry in a Digital World: New Media at the Service of the Word. The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has released his message for World Communications Day 2010. The theme ties in with the Church’s “Year for Priests”, that runs until June 2010. Pope Benedict calls for priests to discover new digital possibilities to proclaim the Word of God and carry out their ministry. The CCN provides support for the bishops of England and Wales in promoting the Gospel in the media. There will be a retiring collection after all Masses this weekend to support this work. There are also envelopes in the porch with a gift aid declaration, please give generously.

Baptism Congratulations
To all those baptised into our Church yesterday, Saturday – to Daniella and Brandon Pond, Freya Roberts and Lucy Davies.

Mass for Sick & Housebound
Next Saturday 22nd May at 2.30pm we have a Mass for all those who are sick and housebound. During the Mass we will have the anointing of the sick. Refreshments will follow in the Coffee Lounge. All are welcome.

Sending Forth Mass - Communion
Next Sunday 23rd May at 10.00am Mass we welcome back all the children, in their finery, who have received their First Holy Communion over the last few weeks here in our parish. There will be a party in Hesdin Hall after Mass and the communion photographs will be available for sale. We look forward to seeing as many children and their families as possible.

Special Prayers in May
In their statement of child abuse, the Bishops have asked that in each parish there should be a period of prayer on each of the four Fridays of May asking for ‘healing, forgiveness and renewed dedication’. We will have some prayers as we begin Exposition on Friday mornings, with prayers added at the evening Mass on Friday. If you cannot join us in church, please keep these intentions in your prayers on the Fridays of May.
