Flowers in May

May is by tradition the month in the Church dedicated to Mary. In our Church we have a lovely side chapel and statue of Mary. I would like to invite parishioners to bring flowers in for our side chapel to Mary during May. Our floral ladies group will keep an eye to make sure they are kept fresh

Belated Thanks from UCM
On Sunday 7th March the UCM held a cake sale, the proceeds of which, £300 in total, was presented to the Catholic Children’s Society. We have received a certificate of thanks from Westminster which we would like to extend to the many parishioners who supported this worthwhile cause by donating or buying cakes and tea after the morning Masses. Many thanks from us all.

Aylesford Pilgrimage
This will take place on Sunday 13th June. Cost £12.00 p.p. Please Contact Michael O’Hanlon for details.

This Is My Body
Every Wednesday at 8.00pm, running from 28th April 2010 for 7 weeks, there is a series of talks, on DVD. This is an engaging resource designed to inform, inspire and raise prayerful discussion about the great gift of the Mass. Depending on numbers, the talks will be held either in the coffee lounge or hall.

Ascension of The Lord

Fr. Duncan writes: Dear Parishioners, This week we celebrate Pentecost Sunday, the day the Church’s work of bringing the Gospel to all peoples began. Now, as then, Christ pours out his Spirit on us that we may continue the ministry that the Apostles lived out with such joy. God’s Spirit is among us, inspiring us and uniting us, that we too may be apostles of God’s love.
Let us pray, on this Pentecost Sunday, for a re-awakening of the fire of the Holy Spirit in our hearts and in our lives during this year. The Spirit must empower and energise us to look at the needs of our parish community and then initiate ways of addressing those needs.
This Sunday we welcome our Special Children to the 10.00am Mass. They are coming together to give thanks to God for the great gift of the Eucharist they have received. The gift of the Eucharist continues as they go forth to love, celebrate and serve God in others. Today, on this Pentecost Sunday, these children are being sent forth with that gift to share the love Jesus has for them with their family and friends who have been with them and supported them and continue to support them on their journey of faith.

Papal Visit
In September this year, Pope Benedict XVI will be coming to our country. When Pope John Paul II came here in 1982, it was on a pastoral visit to the Catholics of the United Kingdom. This time the Pope has been invited by Her Majesty's Government on a state visit which really is a “first”. Pope Benedict’s primary responsibility will be, as always, to continue the witness of 2,000 years to the death and resurrection of Christ. We must pray that great grace be given to the Holy Father, and that great grace will flow through all he says and does. Papal visits do not come cheaply, and although the Government will pick up much of the cost, we, the Church will have to raise about £7 million. Already donors have provided almost half of the amount. As I mentioned last weekend, the Bishops have asked for a special collection this Sunday to support the forthcoming visit of the Holy Father to our country. There are prayer cards and envelopes available at the back of the church. Please be as generous as you can in today’s retiring collection. If you wish to take an envelope and return it next week please do so. Please take a prayer card and pray for the Holy Father and the forthcoming visit.

With Deepest Sympathy
Our sympathy and prayers to the family of Adele Cusack whose Funeral Mass takes place this Thursday 27th May at 10.00am. Our prayers also to the family of Rosa Capizzi whose Funeral Mass took place last week here in our Church.

Wedding Congratulations
To Sean Fitzgerald and Lorianne McCarthy who were married in our church on Friday.

Sending Forth Mass - Communion
Today, Sunday 23rd May at 10.00am Mass we welcome back all the children, in their finery, who have received their First Holy Communion over the last few weeks here in our parish. There will be a party in Hesdin Hall after Mass and the communion photographs will be available for sale. We look forward to seeing as many children and their families as possible.

Special Prayers in May
In their statement of child abuse, the Bishops have asked that in each parish there should be a period of prayer on each of the four Fridays of May asking for ‘healing, forgiveness and renewed dedication’. We will have some prayers as we begin Exposition on Friday mornings, with prayers added at the evening Mass on Friday. If you cannot join us in church, please keep these intentions in your prayers on the Fridays of May.

Gift Aid
Many thanks again to all those who have Gift Aided their offering to the Church thereby increasing our annual income, at no cost to themselves, by some £20,000 p.a. An important reminder though; we can ONLY claim the tax rebate if we have a record of payment to the Parish by means of an ENVELOPE, BANKERS ORDER or CHEQUE. Anyone who has Gift Aided their offertory but no longer pays any form of income tax should inform Michael Clark via the Parish Office.

Lost Property
We now have a rather large accumulation of lost property. Please take the time to check the table in the foyer for any items you/your children may have left in the church recently. Any unclaimed items will be disposed of at the end of the month.

RCIA
The RCIA for this year has finished. It will begin again in September. If you know of someone – husband, wife, friend, neighbour who might be interested in exploring whether God may be calling them to become a Catholic, then please ask them to contact me for further information. The important thing to rem-ember is that we are all called to be evangelizers and to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ
