Papal Visit Prayer –
16th - 19th September 2010

God of truth and love, your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light to all who seek you with a sincere heart.
As we strive with your grace to be faithful in word and deed,
may we reflect the kindly light of Christ and offer a witness of hope and peace to all.
We pray for Pope Benedict and look forward with joy
to his forthcoming visit to our countries.
May he be a witness to the unity and hope which is your will for all people.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Our Lady, Mother of the Church – pray for us.
St Andrew – pray for us.
St George – pray for us.
St David – pray for us.

Going into Hospital

A reminder, it is important, if you go into hospital that you tell the nurses that you are a Roman Catholic and would like a visit from the Roman Catholic Chaplain. It is also helpful to let us know in the parish as well, so we can try to visit you

Parish AGM
Please note the AGM of our Parish takes place on Wednesday 14th July at 7.30pm in Hesdin Hall. All are welcome.

12th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Duncan writes: Dear Parishioners, I have received some information regarding the forthcoming visit of Pope Benedict. Each event is considered a ‘national event’, which means people will be coming from all over the country. Each Diocese has been allocated a number of places for each event. I have been asked to nominate one or two people from our parish for each of the following events.
Westminster Abbey - Friday 17th September
Westminster Cathedral Mass - Saturday 18th September
Vigil in Hyde Park - Saturday 18th September
Beatification of Cardinal Newman at Coventry - Sunday 19th September.
There are very few places available to the diocese for each event and so the participants will be selected by ballot. If you would like to be considered for a place, please take a Papal Visit Events Form from the table in the porch and complete and return to Fr Duncan TODAY. The names will be forwarded to the diocese for the diocesan ballot with the deadline for nominations being tomorrow, 21st June. As further information becomes available, I will let you know.

Retiring Collection
Next weekend there will be a retiring collection for Peter’s Pence. This collection is a worldwide collection which goes towards the running costs of the Vatican and its various offices. Please give generously.

Parish Census
We are in the process of updating our parish records. On the benches in the church you will find a Parish Census Form. Please take this form, complete it and return it next week to the box in the foyer. It is important that each family completes a new form in order that we can update our records here in the parish. These records are referred to when completing references, school application forms, passports etc, so it is vital that the information held here is correct and up to date. Even if you know you are already registered with the parish, please take a form and enter your details as all old records will be destroyed and replaced with new information received.

Baptism Congratulations
Congratulation to George Ott who was baptised in our Church yesterday, Saturday.

Catechists – First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion
Here in Ruislip parish, we are very lucky to have a wonderful group of Catechists, who over the last 10 years have prepared our children to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We are now actively seeking new people to join the team and become catechists - maybe you would be interested in finding out more about this very special ministry? It is so rewarding to work with the children and see their faith and understanding grow. It is also a great way to meet new people and contribute to the life of the parish.
The sessions take place on Sunday mornings 11.15am-12.15pm from October to May, term time only. Full training will be provided by the diocese.  If you are interested please forward your name and details to either Sandra Mace 01895 678223 or Nicola Burke nicolaburke@rcdow.org.uk and we will arrange a meeting in early September.

Knights of St Columba
The Knights of St. Columba would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Barbara Steele and her companion, who completed the KSC Provincial Sponsored Walk on the 6th June, raising funds for the refurbishment of Allen Hall seminary. Their efforts and the generosity of so many from this Parish will help us to provide suitable living and study conditions for our future priests. If you have not yet come up with the promised cash, we shall be contacting you soon! Thanks to you all.

Flowers in June
June is by tradition in the Church the month of the Sacred Heart. During May many people have been most generous in bringing in flowers for the altar and statue of Our Lady. I think it would be very nice to do the same for the Sacred Heart, so that the altar will be full of flowers in thanksgiving to the Sacred Heart for so many blessings. Our floral ladies will be happy to place them in vases.

Feast Day of St. John Southworth
There will be a talk on the life and ministry of St. John by Fr. Michael Archer at Westminster Cathedral on 24th June at 7.00pm. The new publication by the CTS of St John Southworth’s life will be available and there will also be the opportunity to view the lead coffin in which his body was found. Admission is free.

With Grateful Thanks
Eric and Marjorie Cusack would like to thank all those who kindly sent their expressions of sympathy, flowers, cards and donations on the recent death of Eric’s mother, Adele. The sum of £1352.50 was received and will be donated to Age Concern Hillingdon
