Papal Visit Prayer –
16th - 19th September 2010
God of truth and love, your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light to all who seek you with a sincere heart.
As we strive with your grace to be faithful in word and deed,
may we reflect the kindly light of Christ and offer a witness of hope and peace to all.
We pray for Pope Benedict and look forward with joy
to his forthcoming visit to our countries.
May he be a witness to the unity and hope which is your will for all people.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord
Amen

13th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Duncan writes: Yesterday we welcomed Bishop Alan Hopes to our parish. He joined us to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. Forty-seven of our young people received this sacrament. I am particularly grateful to Rita Smith and her team of catechists who have been working hard to prepare our young people for this special day. Please keep them all in your prayers.
In a couple of weeks, a group of us will be setting off from our parish to join the Westminster Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The pilgrimage will be led by our Archbishop, Vincent Nichols, and the auxiliary bishops. If you would like us to take any petitions to Our Lady of Lourdes, these may be handed to Fr Duncan or posted through the letter box of the priests’ house. Your petition should be written out and placed in an envelope and sealed.

Parish Census
As you are probably aware by now, we are in the process of updating our parish records. It is important that each family completes a new parish record form as this information is referred to when completing references, school application forms, passports etc, therefore it is vital the details held here are correct and up-to-date. Thank you to all those who have already completed and returned their forms, we have had a very large number of forms back. If you have not yet returned your census form, please do so today as all old records will soon be destroyed.

Apostleship of the Sea Collection
Next weekend at all Masses there is a retiring collection for the Apostleship of the Sea. This is a national collection which goes towards supporting chaplains and running hostels for seamen away from home, many of whom are Catholics. Please be generous next weekend.

Catechists – First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion
Here in Ruislip, we are very lucky to have a wonderful group of Catechists who over the last 10 years have prepared our children to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. We are now actively seeking new people to join the team and become catechists - maybe you would be interested in finding out more about this very special ministry? It is so rewarding to work with the children and see their faith and understanding grow. It is also a great way to meet new people and contribute to the life of the parish. The sessions take place on Sun mornings 11.15am-12.15pm from Oct to May, term time only. Full training will be provided by the diocese.  If you are interested please give your name and details to Sandra Mace 01895 678223 or Nicola Burke nicolaburke@rcdow.org.uk and we will arrange a meeting in early September.

Altar Servers Holidays
As usual, because so many Servers go away on holiday, no rota will be published during August.  Will Servers please volunteer to serve on the weekends when they are not away?  Blank lists are available in the sacristy and remember it is your duty to serve whenever you are needed – during August you are always needed!  The rota published on Saturday 17th July covering the weekend of 24th and 25th July will be the last until after the Summer when the next rota will be put up on Saturday 28th August and will cover the weekend of 4th and 5th September.

Baptism Congratulations
Congratulations to Aidan Joseph O’Halloran who will be baptised in our church this Sunday afternoon.

We are an informal group of mothers who meet on the 2nd Sunday of the month to offer prayers for our children. Our next meeting is next Sunday, 11th July from 4.00-5.00pm followed by tea and coffee. All are welcome. For more details see leaflet in the porch.
