Papal Visit Prayer –
16th - 19th September 2010
God of truth and love, your Son, Jesus Christ, stands as the light to all who seek you with a sincere heart.
As we strive with your grace to be faithful in word and deed,
may we reflect the kindly light of Christ and offer a witness of hope and peace to all.
We pray for Pope Benedict and look forward with joy
to his forthcoming visit to our countries.
May he be a witness to the unity and hope which is your will for all people.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

15th Sunday of the Year

Fr. Duncan writes: With the celebration of Confirmation last weekend, this completes our sacramental programme for this year. Next weekend is the last meeting for our Sunday Group classes and the ‘end of term’ Mass will be on Sunday 18th July at 10.00am. Our thoughts and planning now turn to next year. In September the Sunday Group classes, for those children in non-catholic schools, begin again. Arrangements for registration will be announced in the newsletter in the next week or so. Also in September we will begin the preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. The dates for registration are given in the newsletter. Next year all children from our parish will be included in the one main group for preparation for these sacraments. Those children who are not in a catholic school must complete at least a year in the Sunday Group prior to beginning sacramental preparation. I have written to the Bishop asking for a date for the celebration of Confirmation for next year, and will let you know when this is received.
We have wonderful teams of Catechists who work with the children and young people in our parish, but there is always a need for more. Please give serious consideration to helping with this ministry. You do not need to be a theologian or teacher to do this. A willingness to share the great gift of our faith is all that is needed. Full training will be given to help you do this.

Apostleship of the Sea Collection
This weekend at all Masses there is a retiring collection for the Apostleship of the Sea. This is a national collection which goes towards supporting chaplains and running hostels for seamen away from home, many of whom are Catholics. Please be generous next weekend.

Altar Servers Holidays
As usual, because so many Servers go away on holiday, no rota will be published during August.  Will Servers please volunteer to serve on the weekends when they are not away?  Blank lists are available in the sacristy and remember it is your duty to serve whenever you are needed – during August you are always needed!  The rota published on Saturday 17th July covering the weekend of 24th and 25th July will be the last until after the Summer when the next rota will be put up on Saturday 28th August and will cover the weekend of 4th and 5th September.

Sunday Group
Just a reminder that next Sunday, 18th July is the last lesson for the term. We look forward to seeing everyone at our end of term Mass at 10.00am next Sunday and then afterwards for tea and coffee in the Coffee Lounge.

Pilgrimage to Lourdes
In a couple of weeks, a group of us will be setting off from our parish to join the Westminster Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes. The pilgrimage will be led by our Archbishop, Vincent Nichols, and the auxiliary bishops. If you would like us to take any petitions to Our Lady of Lourdes, these may be handed to Fr Duncan or posted through the letter box of the priests’ house. Your petition should be written out and placed in an envelope and sealed.

Lourdes Meeting
There will be a meeting for the pilgrims going on the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes on Thursday 15th July at 7.00pm in the Coffee Lounge. At this meeting tickets and pilgrimage books will be handed out.

Knights of St Columba
Please note the next meeting is this Wednesday 14th July at 8.00pm in the Warrender Room.
